Or have you hand/machine washed and had no problems? REALLY can't be arsed dry cleaning trousers but they were expensive so perhaps I should...

I use the cold handwash cycle

Keztrel · 05/08/2013 12:49

That's what I was hoping to hear Grin I use cold handwash cycle for cashmere and wool jumpers with no probs, so I guess wool trousers might be okay too - was just concerned they'd get out of shape or shrink a bit.

If they were expensive then I would dry clean. Once they've been dry cleaned for a few years and I wouldn't mind if they were ruined I might try a cold handwash cycle and then curse the drycleaning spend if they came out ok
Mostly though because I am also too lazy for the painstaking work of ironing wool into smartness without making it shiny, and my ass is big enough already without risking even the tiniest bit of shrinkage. Grin

oscar I hadn't considered the ironing question - that's a good point, they will most likely need it, esp as they have a nice crease down the front. Might go for the drycleaning option after all - I'm sure I'll be able to wear them quite a few times before they need it :)

No- they need to be dry cleaned. They may shrink in the wash. I wash cashmere and wool knitwear ( and knitted dresses) but I wouldn't risk a pair of trousers. No way.

Keztrel · 05/08/2013 17:21

OK missbo, I won't risk it!

I just washed some linen trousers which should have been dry cleaned (on gentlest setting on washing machine), and they have shrunk. Have had to throw them out. .

Dry clean them.

I have always washed dry clean only clothes and never had any issues. I have some dry clean only wool trousers that I must have washed half a dozen times on a regular wash before I read the label. Whoops. They weren't particularly expensive though and I got them on sale.
I now wash them on a cool handwash cycle, and use a wool detergent and I haven't noticed any shrinking. Same with ironing iron on reverse and if putting creases down the front I put a tea towel on top.

I think if I had bought something really expensive that was dry clean only then I might dry clean.

I accidentally washed some lovely wool trousers and they were ruined.
I wouldn't risk it op.

And I happily wash silk and cashmere.

I washed some wool trousers without reading the label too (I know, was being careless!). They shrank by about a dress size and 4 inches in the length. They were in the sale thank goodness, but I was really cross with myself! I wouldn't risk it.
