Right, so what's the consensus then on tights vs bare legs in the office these days?

I remember Issymum asking this a while back and I can't remember the answer but anyway, I'm interested to hear what people think.

I work in a conventional industry and will be wearing tights come hell or high water since my legs need them, frankly plus we have air con so it's not exactly tropical in the office but what's the done thing these days?

Sort of agree with snafu (but no so exacting) hair free and fake |(or natural) tan a must.

WelshBoris · 11/06/2006 22:13

tights equals sweaty foofs

so no

Flum · 11/06/2006 22:14

eugh gusset. I think it should definately be stockings in all but the coldest weather when wooly tights can be permitted. No husband deserves a wife in tights surely. Unless you are over 60

GDG · 11/06/2006 22:14

pmsl!

mrsbang · 11/06/2006 22:14

Can't do tights, no no no (not even in the winter).

Having said that, usually wear trousers, or virtually full-length skirts so it's of no consequence, lol.

WideWebWitch · 11/06/2006 22:21

stockings all v well but don't hold yer stomach in. I'll be wearing tights all summer. Definitely. I cringe at the word gusset, however it's spelt (spelled?)

i never wear skin coloured tights - reminds me of mi nan.

i do wear black tights with a knee length formal skirt. but these days i have been pushing the limits since i have moved to a smaller office and no one rightly gives a shit Grin and i go tightless most of the time

TwinsetandPearls · 11/06/2006 23:32

bear legs although I have worked in a school where a headmistress - and a well known one- reputedly was reluctant to employ bear legged women.

Gillian76 · 11/06/2006 23:35

Magic pants?

Ditch the tights. It's too hot.

mrsbang · 11/06/2006 23:40

apologies in advance, but rofl at the thought of bear legs under your skirt.

TwinsetandPearls · 11/06/2006 23:50

lol I knew it was wrong as I was typing it but my mind went blank as to what was correct!

My only excuse is that I am lesson planning at the same time, my brain can only do so much!

mrsbang · 11/06/2006 23:52

lol, well it brightened my night.

bloss · 12/06/2006 02:43

Depends what you're wearing doesn't it? If you're wearing a smart/casual floral dress with strappy sandals, then bare legs are essential. If you're wearing a business suit, or tailored skirt and office-y blouse, then I think bare legs look tarty. Also very hard to get away with high heels and bare legs - almost always looks cheap IMHO!

bloss · 12/06/2006 02:43

Oh, and skirt length counts, too. Knee-length=virtually impossible. Longer is much easier to get to look OK.

CountessDracula · 12/06/2006 10:06

How about stockings and bridget jones knickers
NO WAY would I wear tights in this weather. Trouser suits are cooler than tights and skirts anyway IMO

motherinferior · 12/06/2006 13:40

Or take tights with you to the office and put them on there?

I went to an office today in bare legs but then I'm a carefree bohemian Grin, yeah, right, it was a distinctly non-posh office.

Not a chance I'd have tights on in this weather.

Mind my work skirts are full length so I can get away with it.

emmabiscool · 17/09/2006 02:49

I think bare legs are fine these days, plus a lot more hygienic than tights...

Gemmasmummy · 18/09/2006 09:08

I think it does depend on the type of office, mine is publishing so the dress code is fairly relaxed - smart casual and bare legs are fine, but that's because we are a "creative" department and don't meet clients. Other offices where you meet clients you might have a more formal dress code. But quite frankly, if you're sitting behind a desk all day who cares what you're wearing on your legs? One way round it is to wear a trouser suit - it's smart, comfy and modern all at the same time and looks feminine if you team it with a pretty blouse.

I think tights are frumpy except for winter tights. Tan coloured tights always frumpy.

Have no objection to bare legs, and no objection to white legs either
