Do you think this dress would be good?

I'm 5'6 and size 10 and blond

I think it is lovely but expensive!!

I think unless you have a ridiculously huge clothing budget (and if you think £350 is silly money it doesn't sound like you do Smile), a £350 dress needs to be a really good investment. By that I mean do you really, really love it and feel fantastic in it, can you see yourself wearing it on more than one or two occasions and can you imagine bringing it out to wear for years?

FWIW Glyndebourne doesn't have to be quite as dressy as that dress, though it will fit in fine. I don't know what other events feature in your social life but I can't imagine having too many opportunities to wear something like that, I think I would rather invest in something slightly shorter (eg Roland Mouret style fitted, midi length) or just above the knee, that I would wear out for smart drinks/dinner.

Think it is gorgeous but, having been to Glyndebourne several times, would say that it's up the most dressy end.

You could easily wear something a bit less full on and lots of people do . Cocktail type dresses are fine for example .
So you don't have to go that, far but if you cam afford it amd think you'll get plenty of use from it - or don't mind if you don't - go for it.
I'd keep accessories fairly understated though

polyhymnia · 01/08/2013 21:01

See sleep has said the same as me.

caramelgirl · 01/08/2013 21:07

I will go against consensus here and say that I think, generally, full length gowns fit in better at Glyndebourne. FiL an opera fanatic so I have been a fair bit as their guest and all the oldies mutter about shorter dresses. And as for those wearing trouser suits....
So I guess it depends who you are going with. But I agree £350 is alot. And I recommend not wearing v pointy heels to sink into the grass.
Hope that you have fun whatever you go in!

I have seen people wearing proper capes at Glyndebourne so not too dressy. But equally you could wear jeans there and it would be fine.

caramelgirl · 01/08/2013 21:10

Also phase eight (neariy) ALWAYS reduce stuff to half price. When are you going? Can you wait a couple of weeks? Would be v upsetting to blow £350 and see it sold for £175 soon.

Cristiane · 01/08/2013 21:32

These are all very good points you make and yes I would be gutted to see that on sale later, what a lot of money, particularly as I have had to buy some new work stuff recently. Thank you for the advice on what people wear

I think that I would like to go long, as I am going with aunt and uncle and they are a bit older and I think they would appreciate the effort

I was planning on wedges so no grass sinking!!
