Product needed to hide flushing

I have always flushed really badly if I get even remotely hot. Cheeks go really red from eye line down to chin, across from nose to hairline. It takes ages to subside once I've flushed (currently sat here an hour in to today's flush!) It's not a pretty, ingenue type flush. It's full on cherry red across most of my face (my cheeks are big!) and looking very hot flush. Attractive it isn't.

I have shied away from make up for most of my life because I flush and then it is rendered pointless, particularly blusher and foundation/powder. However, I do like make up and at the grand old age of 36 I've figured I need to try to hide it. It's not something that a light foundation (my usual preference) will hide. Do I need a colour correcting thing to wear under foundation? Do I need a heavier foundation? Is there anything else I can do?

You sound just like me, I blush at the drop of a hat and the recent hot weather seemed to make things worse. I used to dread social gatherings etc...but I have recently tried Clinique redness solutions and then Bare Minerals foundation powder buffed on top. Seems to help me not Blush so much Grin.

Thanks! The Clinique stuff sounds interesting. I do think I need to think about treating my general redness. I thought my underlying redness was dehydration as beauty people kept looking and saying it was - I have been treating that recently and my skin looks tonnes better, but I still have some underlying redness across my cheeks. And then on top of that I get the flushing...

Do you use the day creams, or just the Daily Protective Base thing?

Have you thought about whether this is rosacea and not just a flush? You might have an underlying problem.

Yes, somebody mentioned this a while back and because the dehydration is improving but redness not so much I think it might be that I have rosacea. I am wearing a SPF40 mineral sunblock religiously now as it is mainly sun/heat that seems to trigger the redness. I am also starting to look at rosacea skincare products, but would like something to help mask the redness and particularly the flushing when wearing make up too.

You can and should see your GP and ask for a referral to a dermo. From what I know it's the kind of skin condition that needs treatment sooner rather than later to prevent the skin getting thickened and damaged.

Thanks. I'll do that - better to be safe than sorry where my face is concerned as it's not really something I can hide!
