i am in a phase of having virtually no money, almost zero to spend on myself. am trying hard not to slip back into where i was a while ago of always looking a state and trying to keep hair and make up done each day, nails tidy, regular dry trims at hairdresser etc. but i havent had any new clothes in ages and everything is tatty and old and a lot is a bit big. i am currently a sahm but quite enjoy wearing what were work skirts etc with comfy boots rather than power shoes and things. i am hoping for some money for my bday and hope to buy a few bits to create a bit of a new wardrobe - but i know 100 - 150 wont go far. what should i get to make me feel like i have a noce new set of clothes? i am an avergae size 10-12 and wont be returning to work all that soon

Decide what your neutral colours are and buy trousers and a skirt say. Then add in a couple of neutral tops so you can mix and match. Then add in a couple of colours.
So for me, navy, grey and black are my neutrals and red, pink and purple tend to be the colours I add in.
A pair of jeans, white shirt.
Look at what you already have that will do. Build your wardrobe over time. Once you have the basics it's so much easier as the wardrobe all goes together and you have much more choice.

Jeans that fit really well. Decent footwear. Think ahead - it's summer now, cheap t-shirts look OK ( Primark?) but footwear and a jacket that you can wear anywhere in most seasons will be most useful. I disagree with JennySense, think white shirt not all that useful or flattering, for me patterned tops( if you have children) are more wearable. Jersey dresses can be dressed up or down and are practical. As you are slim, would one of those fitted midi length jersey dresses work?
Agree with deciding on neutrals and then colour flashes. What is your colouring?
