Do Fitflops fit all feet?

MrsMargoLeadbetter · 29/07/2013 09:15

Hi,

Bit of a 'how long is a piece of string' question I know....

Have 2nd year of foot related issues and I know that wearing flat thin flipflops isn't helping. Physio suggested last year wearing Fitflop type shoes.

I tried the M&S version but they were really tight.

Like the look of the Yoko Fitflops which are "only" £39.99 on sale Shoetique but I wondered if they will be tight too. I don't have particularly high arches or fat feet - as far as I know.

I want them for the weekend and I am unlikely to be able to get to a shop to try them on as have lots of stuff planned this week & have the DC who hate shopping with me. I know I can return them etc.

Just wondered if Fitflops are generally ok for most...?

TIA

I can't wear them at all. I have high instep and wide feet. I have to go two sizes up to even get a pair on.

Have you tried Birkenstocks?

froggiebabies · 29/07/2013 09:45

The Gizeh and Arizona styles are my favourites - both very comfortable.

Moomoomie · 29/07/2013 09:49

I find my fit flops very comfortable, the non toe post ones.
I have average width feet with a low instep

meditrina · 29/07/2013 09:49

I've been really comfy in mine.

Beware - there are two widths of base and even medium width feet (like mine) spill over the sides of the styles with the narrower base (pity, because they're often the nicer ones). I tried a size up, but then they were too loose to walk in.

The standard base (original, the sequin and crystal styles) is a really easy fit, which seems to be a tru match to the size label.

LackaDAISYcal · 29/07/2013 09:51

I find the ones I have quite a wide fit, but I know the other styles fit slightly differently. Best thing would be to either try a few pairs on, or order a few different styles.

I have foot issues too high instep, plantar fasciitis plus associated problems due to scleroderma and have to wear orthotic insoles on my normal shoes. Fitflops are essentially the only sandal that I can wear without exascerbating things/making my knee ache like a bastard. Birkenstock types are just too hard and unforgiving and not supportive enough at the arch.

MarianaTrench · 29/07/2013 09:56

I have fallen arches and wear orthotic insoles in shoes. I can wear the standard fit flop with no problems but I generally prefer the two bar Birkenstocks with a stick on jelly-like arch support I bought off Amazon.

primallass · 29/07/2013 10:12

This exactly. Birks all the way for me.

ben5 · 29/07/2013 10:14

thongs are the best thing ever!!!!

LizzyDay · 29/07/2013 10:21

They aren't any good for a high instep. I wear loads of flip flops but I can't get my feet into fit flops. Better for a narrower 'flatter' foot definitely, I have loads of friends who love them though.

bonzo77 · 29/07/2013 10:24

I'm the opposite. Really narrow, shallow feet with hardly any arch. Fit flops useless. Birkenstocks every time here too.

froggiebabies · 29/07/2013 10:33

For anyone who finds Birkenstocks hard on the feet I notice they are doing some styles with a soft footbed now. Might be worth a look.

MrsMargoLeadbetter · 29/07/2013 11:35

Wow,thanks very much for the feedback. I think I might have issues, I need to get myself to a shop to try them on.

Need a plan B I think for the weekend!

Thanks again.

they fit me fine, I used to have really fat wide feet and the size 8 fit fine, now my feet aren't as fat but are still wide and the 8 still fits. they were tight at first when I was bigger all over but they do give over time. my old ones were too loose so brought a new size 7 and were too mall so swapped for an 8 and as they are unstretched they fit fine.

Dontletthemgetyoudown · 29/07/2013 12:02

they do take a bit of getting used to though, they gave me really bad calf ache to begin with and when I break new ones in again I get the calf ache. but after a few wears are really comfortable.
I di like my Birkenstock Madrid or gizeh though as well.

Theas18 · 29/07/2013 12:13

wide feet here. Walkstar3 fit well. Note they do loosen after a few wearing as you " squish" the sole a bit!

I've gone up to a 6.

Looked at the yokos. I think they are on the newer foot bed- narrower and not as squishy

toastedteacake · 29/07/2013 13:41

I have awkward feet (very narrow with a high instep) and cannot wear Fitflops but found these

'Orthotic' sandals may not be top of your list but they are super comfy and I don't think they are as ugly as Fitflops or the Skechers equivalent.

toastedteacake · 29/07/2013 14:09

I would like to add that the flip flops linked above are not narrow, I have lots of room all around each foot. They are really supportive though and stop my high arches collapsing when I walk.

Also have a look at these. I can't wear them because they are too wide, shame, because you don't need to switch orthotics around different pairs of shoes.

LackaDAISYcal · 29/07/2013 14:54

ooh Mariana...stick on jelly arch sounds interesting! I need some of those for flats and my dressy sandals. At the minute I just accept that I will have a few days of pain after wearing them

mamijacacalys · 29/07/2013 15:09

Previous threads on here always recommended sizing up for fit flops.
So I got size 8 in gogh and lulu slide styles (can't do toe posts whatever the brand).
I was previously a Birkenstock fan but fit flops are by far and away in a different league of comfort!
I have E width feet.
HTH

MarianaTrench · 29/07/2013 15:10

They are these, lackadaisical. They're not as comfortable as you might hope but are far better than nothing.

valiumredhead · 29/07/2013 16:12

HOTTERS have some which have adjustable straps - very comfy.

hermioneweasley · 29/07/2013 16:36

I have wide flat feet (attractive)

I LOVE my fit flops. Birkenstocks are great, but fit flops are a different league of comfort. I wear size 6 fit flops with a toe post.

BikeRunSki · 29/07/2013 16:40

I also have wide, flat and long (8) feet and my FitFlop sneakers fit brilliantly.

I also wear birkies, the Gizeh style, and need a 41 rather than 42.

Dollydowser · 29/07/2013 22:09

I also have wide feet and very high instep, can't get my foot in Fit Flops.
