Our kitchen is nearly done(thank goodness!) and I have chosen grey for the walls. The units are white dark grey floor tiles solid wood tops and a small amount of black and white tiled splashback. All wood work is white and I have some old shelves and pot racks in old wood(french sort of things I've had for years)Now all builders etc and dp say they don't like the grey paint but I love it What do you think?

I had grey paint in my old kitchen and I really liked it, it looked fab and everyone commented on it. DH didn't want it but once it was on the walls, he saw how good it looked.

Ignore them all!

Obviously without seeing your kitchen or the shade of grey you are going for, it is impossible to give an opinion of how it would work in your space. But honestly, I think grey sounds a bit institutional.

LIZS · 09/06/2006 11:10

Sounds nice tbh. How dark is it, thinking dove grey ?, and could you appease dp by getting a slightly bluer shade ?

NatalieJane · 09/06/2006 11:10

I think if it is a nice dark grey, not a bluey-grey but a proper stormy grey it would look lovely!

MamaG · 09/06/2006 11:11

Mine was a dove grey type (egyptian cotton, i think it was called) and it did look really nice - it sounds horrid but is really effective with white units.

SSSandy · 09/06/2006 11:13

Trying to envision it. I don't like the sound of grey paint. What shade of grey is it?

noddyholder · 09/06/2006 11:17

It is a stormy colour darker than dove but not blue at all definitely don't want to compromise the grey I would rather just paint it white than go bluer.I think I will just go for it and see. Can't think of any other colour

im trying to get finny to ddo hers a soft grey

NatalieJane · 09/06/2006 11:19

It sounds like it will look lovely. Don't paint a bit and think "no I'm not brave enough" just paint it everywhere, let it dry, and if you don't like it, then do it again, but don't be put off by the strong colour, from what you have said it will look gorgeous!!

SSSandy · 09/06/2006 11:21

I think you're right to match your colour scheme it has to be a real grey not bluish grey. What colours are the workers and dp suggesting then? I can imagine red would work with the black/white tiles and the wood but I don't know if you want red walls really. A not too violenty red burgundy might be nice maybe?

I've seen grey kitchens with a lot of chrome, very modern appliances. It wouldn't be me but it does come off.

noddyholder · 09/06/2006 11:33

I am going to paint it all gery I have had a red kitchen before and it looked good but think it may look a bit themey/happy days with the black and white mosaics so grey it is!Silly builders like all those white with a hint ofs
