vinylux weekly nail polish

anyone else tried this? i used shellac but it absolutely ruined my nails....

ive just had a manicure with this vinylux polish - its meant to last a week and you can buy the colours and top coat - it goes on like normal polish and dries like normal polish but quicker - then you seal it in with a special top coat.

so far im quite impressed. (i had a trainee do mine for a discount - french polish - one nail is a bit battered but the rest are perfect!) considering it more often and am wondering if its worth buying them.....you dont need a base coat - just the colour and top coat.

whats everyone else think? has anyone had any problems with weakened nails while using it? thats why i stopped the shellac.....

I had it done on Saturday and so far so good.

I used to get shellac done all the time but my nails kept splitting. I hope this does work as every single nail varnish I've tried even with seche vite top coat only lasts for 36 hours maximum on me.

ThatVikRinA22 · 23/07/2013 23:35

snap satsuma - despite all the protestations of the beauty therapist i found shellac absolutely ruined my nails - they weakened and split - normally i have very healthy nails but i tend not to bother much with them!
i thought i might start treating myself to the vinylux - ive had mine since last friday....ive lost a bit of the white on one nail but have bodged it so it doesnt stand out.
normal polish is wasted on me. if i dont smudge it i chip it within hours.

it was a trainee who did mine and she did the white bit of the french polish a bit thick for my liking which is why i think its chipped on the one nail....but the rest is holding up!

A friend of mine gave me some colours and the top coat to try. I don't have whatever it is they prime the nails with though. I've used them twice so far and by day 3-4 they are badly chipped. Mind you, I've never been able to wear regular nail polish without it chipping within a minimum of 24hrs, even the high end brands.

ceeveebee · 24/07/2013 12:17

Sounds interesting. I am in the gel nails (Gelish usually) trap at the moment, I hate my nails looking chipped so as soon as it starts peeling away I go and get it removed and repainted, I haven't seen my natural nails for about a year now...

Do you need a UV machine or is it just polish?

satsumasunrise · 24/07/2013 12:58

It's just polish. It's supposed to come off with just nail varnish remover too which is a big plus point in my book, hate the faff of taking shellac off.

ThatVikRinA22 · 24/07/2013 16:45

ive had it since last friday so almost a week really - i took the chipped one off myself with normal polish remover and re - did it with normal french polish - cant tell the difference now, but am impressed with the longevity of this stuff i have to say!

definitely going to get it again. it lasts like shellac but comes off with normal nail polish remover easily.

I am meant to be getting a Shellac manicure today but was thinking about trying the Vinylux instead.
I only really need it to last until Monday for an event so thought it would be cheaper and easier to remove.
The only thing putting me off is last time I was in the salon the girl said they didn't have many colours yet.
Does anyone else have experience of it? I've got an interview on Monday so really want to look groomed. Would I be better just paying the extra for Shellac?

ThatVikRinA22 · 27/07/2013 06:51

well my vinylux has lasted a full week. ill probably take it off today but that will be 8 days.

shellac is good for a one off - it does stay put - but it ruined my nails. plus you need to go back to get it removed and that involves soaking it off in pure acetone.

the vinylux you can take off with normal nail polish remover. ive been quite impressed wth it - will have it again.

I think I'll try the Vinylux if they have a suitable colour. I don't need it to last as long as Shellac so seems silly to pay extra for that.
And I like the idea that I can take it off at home rather than picking it off like I usually end up doing with Shellac

GypsyFloss · 27/07/2013 07:41

I have vinylux polishes which I bought from my amazing nail tech so that I can sort out any chips myself.

ThatVikRinA22 · 27/07/2013 11:33

yeah you can buy the polishes to do at home - im off back in a bit for another go....
not sure whether to go for another french polish or try a colour....decisions decisions.

I love their lobster roll which is nicely orangey red and dark lava which is a deep purple. In fact that's what I'm having on my toes later today :)

INeedSomeHelp · 27/07/2013 16:07

After all that they didn't have Vinylux at the salon I was at - only at their other one. So I ended up with Shellac after all.

ThatVikRinA22 · 27/07/2013 21:51

ive had the vinylux again - a lovely burgundy this time. its survived well today - lots of housework!

Can you buy it on the high street or is it only online?

Jbck · 28/07/2013 08:01

Some on Amazon.

Loveleopardprint · 28/07/2013 19:41

Thanks will have a look. Seem to spend a lot of time buying things on Amazon that are raved about on mumsnet. Wink

ThatVikRinA22 · 29/07/2013 00:14

my beauty salon sells it and the top coat. its a tenner each but you only need one top coat and then obviously the number of colours you buy is up to you! i think i might buy a couple to start with - its really hardwearing and a good range of coloours - you dont need a base coat either - just the colour and top coat. dries in 8 minutes.
had mine redone yesterday - have done tons of housework, cleaned out 2 rat cages, without so much as a chip! im a convert.

You can buy it from salons or online - www.ten10nails.co.uk has it on offer for £7.99 at the minute!
