curly hair help needed

i have naturally curly hair but no matter what i do or what products i use it still goes frizzy. i really need help. i dont have time to blow dry then recreate curls with straighteners (thats what they do when i get it cut) but i dont mind washing it everyday. i usually put products in when its wet, currently morrocan oil and something else i need to check its name. then i scrunch it a bit and let it dry naturally.

I like mousse, but make sure to give my hair a "squeeze" once dry so that it doesn't have that helmet-hair, crispy appearance! I also find the John Frieda finishing crème calms things down.

Hi tiredmummy, I've got the same problem but my hair is also very dry from years of abuse with my ghds. I've decided I'm going to try the "curly girl" method, have you heard about it? (Sorry I'm too thick to paste a link here, you'll have to google it!)
I've got the products ready but will start after tomorrow as I'm having a haircut first.
I'm not sure I'm going to manage completely without shampoo but I'll see how I go!

i'd never heard of that before but looks interesting! might give it a try

I find that the less I touch my hair once it's washed and rinsed of conditioner, the better the frizz. Absolutely no running hands or fingers through the hair.

If I am standing in the shower, I give the longest bit it a gentle squeeze (without running my hands down it if you see what I mean) to get the excess water out and then I tip my head upside down and shake my head a bit and put my fingers in near my head to loosen/lift the roots. Next I dry it off a bit very gently with a towel - just by scrunching the towel on the hair for a few seconds at a time to soak up the moisture.

I then leave it for a moment whilst I dry my body and then I put Umberto Giannini scrunching jelly on (same technique - no running fingers through hair) and pop it into a turbie towel for 10-15 mins and then I shake it loose and either let it dry naturally, or use a diffuser to dry it a bit (but not totally)

A few months back I was on here literally tearing my hair out with the frizz and not being able to get the curls to form nicely, and this method (based on a lot of responses I got and also looking at the curly girl website) has really helped. I can even sometimes get by without washing every day, just spritz with a solution of conditioner and water and put in some more jelly. I didn't think it was even an option to not wash my hair and not have to tie it back!

I'm no expert at all as I have straight hair but dd has curly hair. I've recently started using naked shampoo (once a week) and conditioner (3 times a week) to wash her hair ensuring that I comb it through. It really has made a difference. It's not as dry and therefore doesn't get as matted.

I wash mine most days. Use conditioner each time but only shampoo about twice a week. Blot a bit with towel then put in leave in conditioner (MOP) while it is still very wet, running my fingers through it a bit. Immediately followed by Boots pink curl creme which I sort of squeeze into the hair with my head upside down (no running fingers through at this stage or at all after this). Hair feels very wet at this point. Then let dry naturally with minimal touching or diffuser.

My curls usually look pretty good (has taken years to get here) but do frizz easily if I forget and fiddle with them too much. Avoid silicones.

I have long ringletty curls. I find my hair is not particularly typical of how you'd expect such curly hair to be (its quote light despite the length and thickness and is very easily weighed down) but I wash with tresemme naturals, comb through with wide comb. Always leave to dry naturally. Sometimes don't even bother with product but things I like are loreal play salt spray and Matt paste, and bumble and bumble curl Creme. If using a paste or Creme I rub between palms, apply to hair while twisting hair in one big handful, then scrunch the twist up from the bottom. Then shake out. The combing is what makes the most difference to frizz for me though, if I don't comb it's a lot fluffier. Always lose a few stray hairs on the comb!

I have curly hair. I wash it every 3 days, shampoo and conditioner. Towel dry a bit (not too much) then I put on a blob of this (it takes a while to work out what amount is best for you). Then leave to dry, in summer at any rate. In between washed I slightly wet my hair in the shower which helps the curls bounce back.

That's it.

The 2 main things I have found over the years is 1) pay for a decent haircut, I stopped getting the cheapest stylist to do my hair and started getting the consultant level stylists, made such a difference. And 2) mousse is for straight hair, creams for curly (one of the consultants told me this, a completely awesome gay Aussie called Brett, he was just great, and then buggered off to a salon in a completely inconvenient part of town. Sigh. This was several years ago but I still haven't forgotten the sense of betrayal.)

CurlyLJ - were you me in the '80's?! My hair was long, thick & curly back then & you describe my hair routine to a tee. The only difference was there was no Umberto gelly so I relied upon that "new" product from Boots - gel which came in big tubs and revolutionised my hair just in time for my Bon Jovi phase!

Yy to not touching - comb through conditioner in the shower then never touch again with brush, comb or fingers.

I find that mousse and then good old gel spray are the best for me - I spray then twist the hair and let it dry naturally. It may feel a bit crunchy at first but this soon disappears.

I've tried all sorts of curl creams etc. but have found this to be the best.

RussiansOnTheSpree · 24/07/2013 11:37

Frizz Ease. The full strength one. It's the only product that works. Don't blow dry it ever. Wash it at night and sleep on it damp.

tiredmummy33 · 24/07/2013 19:14

thank you all! today i used gel spray and leave in conditioner and it is much better. ive bought some naked shampoo and conditioner too.

Also meant to say I only wash my hair twice a week, 3 times max and this has made a big difference
