What's the absolute best electric toothbrush to get?

Mine needs replacing. It's just an ordinary electric toothbrush.

But I've seen all this soni-whatsit ones - how do they work? Do you have to scrub your teeth still? Are they good?

I am scared of the dentist so my solution to this is to take good care of my teeth!

I luff my Philips sonicare. My teeth definitely feel cleaner! The other one people rate is oral b sonic complete. One or the other is usually on offer!

Philips sonicare here with the small heads rather than standard. Not the basic cheap one - def get one of the more expensive ones when on offer.

another vote for philips sonicare

Love my Philips Sonicare. Have had a cheap Oral-B in the past but my teeth soon felt furry after using it. Wouldn't swap back to oral-B for love nor money!

OverAndAbove · 23/07/2013 21:07

Yes sonicare; I could never go back to an ordinary one. No scrubbing needed, and so shiny!

So how does sonicare work - do you literally just hold the brush alongside your teeth? How does it work???

It tells you when to change sections - 30 seconds for each quadrant of the mouth. I just move it over back and forth (you do top front, top under and back, bottom front, bottom under and back). In 30 seconds you can go over all the the teeth thoroughly.

There seem to be quite a few, including some kind of 'diamond clean' one which is the most expensive. Do people think it's worth getting the most expensive? Also there is something called an 'airfloss' - has anyone tried that?

Ive got the diamond clean one, its brilliant. I had a cheaper sonicare before that which I thought was really good, but the diamond one is better, teeth feel so clean with it. Ive used sonicare for about 7-8 years and i've got no fillings so i'm sticking with it!

Another vote for Sonicare. Simply marvellous. And when it died after 3 years, I sent it back to be fixed and they sent me a bloody brand NEW one!

TedMoseby · 23/07/2013 22:31

So much Sonicare love on this thread!

I have the new Colgate ProClinical 1500 brush. It uses sonic technology. It has 3 different motions/speeds, according to which tooth surface you're brushing, and it adjusts itself automatically to speed up/slow down according to the angle at which you hold it. It's fab.

I got an expensive air floss thing for xmas, loved it but it stopped working after a few weeks so was returned. did a bit of research and was not going to bother getting another then ARGOS did a cheap one £29.99 and i succumbed, I love it, it makes my mouth feel clean and fresh, i like that it flushes out any bits I can feel after a meal and my teeth feel cleaner after it cos I am not good with flossing. combined with my philips sonicare my teeth have never been as clean Grin see!

bluebump · 25/07/2013 17:49

I love my Sonicare too, my teeth feel amazingly clean.

missbopeep · 25/07/2013 18:48

My old Oral B one used to 'stop' after 30 secs on each quarter of your mouth.

My dentist says it doesn't really matter as long as it's a round head and not like a 'normal' toothbrush.

It's the flossing that really counts.
