Mummy, your hair is brown underneath and blonde on top...

So said DS earlier. Now I wish I'd gone for a full head of highlights and not a half Blush
Is there anything miraculous and cheap I can do myself to lighten up the underneath of my hair?? I don't want to go orangey, though...

I guess I'm bi-coloured until my next hairdresser's appt then? Sad

I got told that last time too :( a semi on the top to tone it down?

Eliza22 · 23/07/2013 09:17

I have this. But I also have my "own" colour put through, to blend in. You could have that done?

Don't go for full head blonde. You'll never get a comb through it, nor a shine on it!

Raptorrethy · 23/07/2013 10:01

Thank you for the replies. I think the top has gone lighter in the sun so the contrast is more apparent...

Eliza, I have had a couple of full heads in the past so I think I will just have to again next time...oh to have a natural colour that I like and that is effortless!

Hmmm. I love my own colour but to be fair, the highlights "lift" my face.

bunnymother · 23/07/2013 13:45

Carolyn Bessette Kennedy did brown underneath and blonde on top, for a while. So maybe you are a style icon and DS should just look on and learn?

Like you, though, I alternate between a full head and a half head of foils. I look beyond dreary with my natural hair colour.

Jemster · 23/07/2013 18:21

Eliza I've seen your photo and I want my hair colour to look like yours but never quite achieve it! I have dark mousey/brown hair with half a head of highlights of various colours. What exactly do I need to ask for to get your hair please?! Also how often do you have it done and how do you stop it drying out? Mine went literally like straw once! Thank you

AhoyMcCoy · 23/07/2013 18:23

I've got nothing helpful to add, except my niece aged 3 said to me "ummmm why is half your hair white and half your hair black?". I guess my classy subtle highlights weren't so classy and subtle after all!!!

InMyShreddies · 23/07/2013 19:36

With a half head, the hairdresser should still put a couple of foils in the underneath part so if you have it up in a ponytail it doesn't look so half and half.

I think the answer is either fork out for full foils or fork out for a better hairdresser! I'm with the second option personally - I spend less than I used to with my new swanky one because she puts in a lovely mix, sometimes half head and sometimes only a t-section but it looks swishy blonde and much better than before with my pricey full head with a cheap hairdresser. I used to pay £80 for a full head and now I pay no more than £50.

But natural fair hair is brownish underneath and blonde on top after being in the sun.

lowra · 23/07/2013 20:09

My dd told me I had black and white hair the other day. Booked a colour not long after.

Raptorrethy · 23/07/2013 20:30

Interesting to hear other people's thoughts - thank you!

Going to google CBK now...I remember she was stunning but I don't remember the half and half head Grin

I too feel very drab when I'm darker and nearer my 'natural' colour. I was pale blonde until about age 11 and then started sun in highlighting at about 16 so I've never been fully mousey.

I think I'll have to suck it up for now, save up and go to the hairdresser again in a few weeks and have more put in.
