How much would you pay for a bra?

Sorry another bra thread.

I've been trying on today....
for anyone who has been helping on the other bra threads, I tried on a 32D in Elle McPherson which was ok but I wanted to try a 32DD because I felt the cups were flattening me a bit, and they didn't have it. (I measure 29.5 - 30 under and 35 over.) Very few places seem to stock 30s.

So the bra was pretty but it also cost £36- the gentle Jade style.

I normally buy padded push up bras- often from M&S limited collection- for around £16 which do make the most of my relatively small assets.

Is there any point spending over £20 on a bra if you are quite small like me, or is it just about the label and the overall 'prettiness' of it you pay for.

I can pay £20-35 for a good bra.

I don't mind, I need a good bra, as I'm a 34FF!Grin

AnythingNotEverything · 21/07/2013 17:44

I was pleased my last bras were only £26 each. As per the poster above, I pay up to £35 regularly (and feel lucky that they fit - prettiness doesn't come into it!).

(Currently a 34J due to pregnancy. God help me when I go for nursing bras ...)

msshapelybottom · 21/07/2013 17:50

I have just spent ?35 & ?30 on two bras, the most I have ever paid in my life. Worth every cent IMO because they actually fit and I don't want to rip them off after an hour. They are size 30FF, the ones I was buying before were 32C and I'd spend about a tenner on those but they hurt!

I won't be going back to cheap bras again.

BikeRunSki · 21/07/2013 17:55

After an extensive fitting and trying in.session in John Lewis recently, the only bra that fits me at all was £25 and I bought 3.

SorrelForbes · 21/07/2013 17:56

I'm happy to pay up to £50/60 for something really special (eg Fauve or R&P) and about £35 for an everyday bra. I wear a lot of Cleos and they cost around £25-£30.

MrsLettuce · 21/07/2013 17:58

I wish I could find bras in this sort of price range! IIRC my newest one was 60something euros, nowt special either. Is just a triumph, was all that fit properly and was vaguely acceptable to look at.

DontCallMeBaby · 21/07/2013 17:58

Oh, that is a pretty bra - if I was a bit little I'd be happy to pay a bot for pretty bras. As it is, I'm not remotely little, and am happy to pay a bit for bras that fit properly, give support, and make me look decent in my clothes! The thing is that now, if you like that bra, you can look for it cheaper online, job done.

I think all women benefit from a decent bra, big or small, you end up paying more for that if your size is a bit out of the ordinary - and I guess at least with bigger sizes it feels like you're getting a bit more fabric for your money!

MrsLettuce · 21/07/2013 17:59

(and not even the breast shape I prefer)

StatisticallyChallenged · 21/07/2013 18:06

I generally pay up to about £35 for a day to day bra - that gets me pretty much anything in Bravissimo, Ewa Michalak etc.

Missbopeep - try online for 30s (I'm fairly sure elles backs are small so you are probably a 30 in others). brastop, bravissimo, amazon has some fabulous bargains, mycurvesandme, debenhams sale etc etc

You can generally get a very good quality bra for the price of an M&S one on these sites and it tends to be worth it

OneLittleLady · 21/07/2013 18:11

statistically you say Elle bras come up small in the back? I have one in a 34 (34G to be precise) which i can still pull out at the back more than I'd expect to be able to, is it possible that I need to size down in the back again?

StatisticallyChallenged · 21/07/2013 18:14

I could be wrong but I have definitely heard that so it is possible you need a 32. But it can vary depend on who cut or stitched the fabric, even an inch difference can distort

JollyHolidayGiant · 21/07/2013 18:16

I don't seem to be able to get a bra that fits for less than £30. So at least £30.

Seems like a ridiculous cost when my size is constantly changing - pregnant, bf, losing weight, pregnant again...

After I stop BFing DC2 and stop post preg weight loss I'm going to buy heaps of bras in one go. At the moment mine are all different sizes and none of them fit right.

OneLittleLady · 21/07/2013 18:18

I will try out a few other sizes, I wouldn't be surprised if I needed to size down in the back again as I am quite 'squishy'

My favourite bras (Panache Cleo or Zia) are between £23-30.

I would be prepared to pay a lot more than that though if something more expensive was what fitted me properly.

I'm slowly stopping BFing though, and also losing weight and so my size and shape is changing a lot. So for the moment £23-30 is a good amount to pay.

I have got big boobs though, so I get a lot of coverage for my money Grin

MaeMobley · 21/07/2013 22:35

I go to R&P and pay approx £70-75 for an everyday bra.

scarlettsmummy2 · 21/07/2013 22:45

Last bra I bought was £22, freya in the sale. I probably wouldn't go much above this as I think freya bras are really excellent. I am a 30f or 30g in marks and Spencer's- but I only buy non padded so not many from M and S as it is all they seem to do at the moment.

cardamomginger · 21/07/2013 22:45

I can get excellent bras at Bravissimo that fit me superbly for between £25 and £30. I'd go to £50 for 'special'.

OneLittleLady · 21/07/2013 22:47

My last bra cost £7 in the hosue of fraser outlet in my town. It's an Elle Mcphearson Intimates one Grin

outingmyselfprobably · 21/07/2013 23:08

I would pay all of the money for a bra in my size. Current ones were about £50 from Rigby.

CelticPromise · 21/07/2013 23:09

I'm a 30H/HH and I spend £20 ish max unless it's a ' special' bra ie present from DH or specific color etc. Brastop and Amazon are great for bargains, as is Debenhams sale. Most of my bras cost £10-15.

I'd sooner have two pricey ones that fit than ten expensive ones that don't.

ChablisLover · 21/07/2013 23:11

Up to £35

Only wear triumph but try to get online discounts
