Hi there my brother is getting married next weekend and I am bridesmaid and doing my own hair.......probably a stupid decision but after buying dress, shoes etc.....££££

My hair is long (mid back) and tends to be a bit frizzy sometimes. I am not skilled with my hair but want to do something more exciting then straightening it. Anyone got any tricks of doing your own up do? What do I need? I am a complete beginner but would like to look nice. Also if I have it down how do I make lovely neat curls (someone said I can use my straighteners although I also have tongs but no idea what to do with them......Help!

I'm also a frizz prone, not great at hair dos person! Have a look on YouTube as there are loads of how-to videos for bridesmaid/wedding hair.

Oh and I've found that French plaiting my fringe into a bun keeps my hair under control and looks nice Smile

Thanks Karin I will have a look, I'm just so worried I will look a mess especially as it needs to be easy to do as have 3 kids to get ready too! Any more suggestions keep them coming (slightly worried going into panic mode)

You had to buy your own outfit to be a bridesmaid?? Hmm

If I were you I'd look on YouTube. Google what hairdo you want and there's bound to be a tutorial of how to do it.

Could you not stretch to an professional updo just this once and cutback on something for such a special day.. save yourself all that stress which you don't need with 3 kids to get ready. I honestly think it would be worth it. .. only other suggestion I have is the hair donut things and a nice accessory/clip x

It's all very stressful as wedding early at 10am and having to get everyone ready I don't think there will be time :( it's a very small wedding, bride doing own hair no money etc thus asked if we could buy own outfits its also in Yorkshire whilst we are in the south east! So travel costs involved too. Just want to feel like I look special as dress nice (can be worn again to other events so not too ltd) my brother means a lit to me and I want to look the part. Thanks for all ideas I am googling quick tutorials and will have a practice when kids in bed.

Oh god, 10am?! Argh yes rather understand the worry!

Erm this may sound a bit yuck but how about doing the plaited part (if you decide to go down this route!) the night before, sticking on a hair net and then tidying it up with a glossing spray and hair spray in the morning?

Wishfulmakeupping · 19/07/2013 19:57

What about a side chignon like this

You would need to wash your hair day before (hair cannot be freshly washed or won't hold as well.
Put into side ponytail with bobble, using a hair doughnut from boots or Claire's wrap your hair around the doughnut then secure that hair with another bobble Iyswim. Couple if practices you get used to how to do it.
This will keep in place all day so you could do this first thing so there's less faff just before you need to leave Iyswim.
