Now I'm a die hard heel wearer. I can wear mine for a 6 hour shopping expedition and not feel any pain.

I would suggest you get those party feet gel cushion things.

PsychoFlame · 07/06/2006 15:35

Me too!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I love all the pretty shoes, want lots of them, but know I'd be a hurty wobbly mess if I tried. :(

Tis not fair - Psycho wears heels most of the time!!!!

PrettyCandles · 07/06/2006 15:36

Heel too high? Most likely reason.

Feet too old? No, seriously, as we get older we loose the fat from the ball of our feet and loose padding there. There are inserts you can get (Party Feet by Scholl) but they made the pain worse for me.

Shoes too narrow? Clarks do heels for wider feet, and I find them vastly more comfortable than 'standard' heels. Also Van Dal (but far more expensive).

PsychoFlame · 07/06/2006 15:36

I tried those and they did nothing (except get sweaty!)

yorkshirelass79 · 07/06/2006 15:37

Could you start with just a little heel, or more of a wedge heel?
You can be girly without heels - pretty flip flop type sandals perhaps?

PsychoFlame · 07/06/2006 15:38

Sorry, replying to them too tamba Wink For me, even the smallest heel does it, age 25 feet, and tried various styles.

Maybe new feet? Grin

yorkshirelass79 · 07/06/2006 15:38

(I would love to be girly without heels btw but am far too short!)

LadyTambaOfTambaTown · 07/06/2006 15:39

My feet are still young Grin (am 23)

They are wedge thingies so width doesnt really matter I dont think. And they are shiney red! Just wore them on the school run and pulled a bus driver so dont want to give them up just yet Shock Wink

Have painful feet now though!

My boots with a bigger heel do the same though, and anything else remotly heely

Also got some of those flat ballet shoes, red again - i think theres a pattern Blush and cant bloody walk in them either!

I am destined to be a trainers slob forever!

Dont laugh but i read in a magazine Ithink it was one of those freebies from asda or tesco, anyway rub a little bit of Bonjela on the balls of your feet to stop them hurting or burning, I tried it and it really does work honest.

LadyTambaOfTambaTown · 07/06/2006 15:42

hmmm I have bonjella stuff somewhere...

Am going out on friday night and dont want to end up having to crawl up the road when my feet start killing me!

OP posts:
PsychoFlame · 07/06/2006 15:44

Oooh - I have some of that! Now need someone with summery heels that I can swipe to try it out with...

(Oh and a non-broken toe)

leander · 07/06/2006 15:44

go on give it a try i am out all day Sat and i will be doing it

meowmix · 07/06/2006 15:46

practice darlin' practice! seriously, your feet need to get used to a new position so that in a matter of weeks your feet hurt in flats instead like mine!!

Also I find rotating my ankle and slipping em off and flexing the foot helps

PrettyCandles · 07/06/2006 15:46

Flatties can be almost as hard to walk in as heels.

I find kitten heels the easiest. I think it's because the heel isn't at the very back of your heel, but set forward a little. And with kitten heels you only need a tiny heel to make you look more delicate and feminine, even if it doesn't give you that sexy arched foot look.

Currently I have two pairs of heels (otherwise I'm a trainers and Birkenstocks girl), one a low kitten heel, the other a medium rectangular heel. The rectangular heeled shoes I wear with inserts that give my arch a bit of support (the shoes are black with a bare arch, and the inserts are flesh-coloured, so I deceive myself that they aren't visible), as without them even those shoes hurt.

LadyTambaOfTambaTown · 07/06/2006 15:52

I have sweaty feet atm Blush yuk!

And a blister on the backs of my heels and my big toes! How long does it take to wear in shoes?

I wont give in though, will beat the shoes!

OP posts:
MrsBadger · 07/06/2006 15:55

Agree arch supports are v important, esp in ballet flats, and they made my 2inch heel boots (just enough to look elegant not clumpy) much more comfortable as well.
As well as sticking to no more than 3 inch heels ever, the other thing that really helped me was getting shoes with a strap or a buckle or some other secure means of keeping them on round the ankle / across the foot - high-heeled mules are just the least practical shoes in the world ever!

It may just be the shape of my feet, but I find cheaper heels from New Look, Debenhams etc difficult to walk in, but Clarks ones are always fine, even with a non-chunky heel (the thing I find hardest).

Bit of sticking plaster under the joint of your big toe also helps till you develop the requisite callous.

yorkshirelass79 · 07/06/2006 16:11

Are the sandals actually strapped to your foot? Like MrsBadger I feel much more comfortable in shoes/sandals that are strapped round my ankle and therefore not going to fall off easily - half the problem with painful shoes can be that you're walking funny and trying to grip the shoe with your toes scrunched up so as not to let the shoes fall off IYSWIM.
Also practice - as meowmix says - can you wear them round the house? This should break them in and also get you used to wearing them.

motherinferior · 07/06/2006 16:21

You can't.

Or I can't, anyway. I have small feet like flippers - size 3 (or 2.5), flat, narrow at the heel and wide at the ball of the foot. I can't wear heels at all. And if I tried, I couldn't do the hour-plus walk I have to do with the Inferiorettes every day.

Would love to be a Real Girl but am resigned to being Pinnochio.

puddle · 07/06/2006 16:24

I find that cheap shoes make my feet hurt more now I'm older. I have a pair from top shop that have practically crippled me and I've only worn them two or three times - and they are flat! I am now firm believer in NOT economising on shoes.

tallmummy · 07/06/2006 16:30

I'm so jealous of you lot and your girly heels. I tried on some beautiful, strappy, wedgy sandals last week they had a good 2.5 inch heel. When I stood up in the shoe shop I smacked my head on a hangy banner thing. It was like the scene from Alice in Wonderland when she grows through the roof. At 6'2" I just can't get away with them.

LadyTambaOfTambaTown · 07/06/2006 16:30

yup they strap round the ankles

I have sooooooo many pairs of shoes!

I am determind that I am wearing little skirts and vest tops this summer instead of boiling in jeans and a t-shirt.

Worked hard to lose the weight for summer (did it though woohoooo) and now its just my feet letting me down!

meowmix · 07/06/2006 16:51

mind you I can't talk. I'm wearing GORGEOUS shoes from Zara today, and can't make it across the office in em cos they are, if truth be told, a little too large.... but I reeeeelly love them.

crunchie · 07/06/2006 18:44

It is practice tbh, I wear heels and flats but I love heels that I can walk in. It is just a case of building up the wear. Start with one hour aeound teh house and build it up. I can wear my fave4" heels all day walking around to meetings if I have to. Yes they are a bit much by teh eve, but they are fab.

However it is all about the thicker heels the best for me are wedges and or cone heels (eg not stilettos)

moondog · 07/06/2006 18:46

Try platforms or wedges.
They are surprisingly comfy.
I can't do heels,as being tall feel like a mad freak.

zoeuk1 · 08/06/2006 14:57

i would never go out on a saturday night in anything less than a 4inch heel! ive been wearing heels for years and years so maybe im used to them.
practice walking around the house all day in them.
