Tell me about Seasalt...

Since being on MN I am no longer able to make up my own mind.

Is Seasalt a) stylish wear for funky mums that love Cornwall, work in the meeeja and have children called Tolly or b) sad waterproof shit for people that can't afford actual Boden or c) something else entirely.

I've just bought some Handibands - unfortunately as a head cover up as I'm having chemo. I've used similar products before (Buffs) but usually as a scarf when winter walking or skiing or as an emergency hat.
I also bought a couple of t-shirts in the sale - sizing seems generous which is good if it is cotton and may shrink in the wash.
possibly better quality than Boden ( never kept anything from there) and colours good for my pale skin.

RussiansOnTheSpree · 19/07/2013 08:02

IME their stuff doesn't shrink. Some of their dresses are lovely, some appeal to me less. My teenage DD1 has pinched a couple of my dresses, several of my tops, a fleecy.....the list goes on.

Bunbaker · 19/07/2013 08:03

I am 54 and think most of the clothes look frumpy - and I am no fashion icon by any stretch of the imagination. I know they sell organic cotton, but I find their stuff very pricey.

RussiansOnTheSpree · 19/07/2013 08:10

The clothes look lovely. On the right person. :) They certainly look fabulous on my teenage DD (Im not suggesting they look lovely on me but if I look frumpy it'll be because of me, not because of a pretty summer dress or a warm fleecy).

Parmarella · 19/07/2013 13:59

Missbopeep, surely that depends on height?

I like some of their stuff, quality is good

FreeButtonBee · 19/07/2013 19:29

I have a raincoat which is brilliant. Grey, plain gingham lining, dipped hem at back to make it slightly less dull, good big hood and zip and button closure. Quality is really good, it's really waterproof and nice and light and doesn't wrinkle easily.

JazzDalek · 19/07/2013 19:30

I like Seasalt! I'm wearing a beautiful bamboo maxi skirt from there today, in fact. I got it in the sale a few days ago and it is one of the best things I've bought. So comfortable for hot weather and I had compliments Smile
Wore it with a navy ribbed vest and did not look frumpy or mumsy at all.

I have a few things from Seasalt and like them all, actually. Have a couple of sweatshirts that are brilliant for wearing after a bath in the evening with PJ bottoms, a few tops and some trousers. All have been great quality.

Loved their children's range and was so sad to see it go Sad but then, it WAS expensive and I only bought in the sale, so I can't complain too much, I guess.

kikerifreedomcastle · 19/07/2013 19:53

I have some dresses and skirts and accessories. I find the quality on a par with Boden, no better, though slightly cheaper I think. Some of the clothes are a little frumpy I suppose, the calf length skirts and so on, and some of the prints .

ThemeNights · 19/07/2013 19:56

I live 5 minutes away from their outlet store.

[smug emoticon]

If you are missing their children's range try frugi.

Kernowgal · 19/07/2013 20:01

They have sale shops in Penryn and Lyme Regis, should you not want to buy full price. They also have stands at Royal Cornwall Show, some bargains to be had.

Personally I find it all a bit Surrey-Mummy-on-hols-in-Padstow but then occasionally I spot something I like. Their fleeces are nice.

OTOH it's hard enough to get a business going in Cornwall so all power to them for doing well.

RussiansOnTheSpree · 19/07/2013 20:06

They also have a sale shop in St Ives.

The fleeces and hoodies are brilliant. So much nicer than the ubiqitous weird fish.

MrsBungle · 19/07/2013 20:11

My dmil has loads of Seasalt stuff. Tbf, she looks great in it but to my mind its something for the 50+ market or people who have a mumsy style. Just my opinion, though.

MrsBungle · 19/07/2013 20:12

And dfil loves to be kitted out in weird fish!

I have had a few things from Seasalt. I have a gorgeous flowery raincoat and its just been so lovely to wear in those miserable days. I also have got a couple of their tunic dresses. One is particularly gorgeous with lilac flowers on a navy background and is made of lovely linen. I got it last year but it was expensive so i waited for a money off voucher. I have worn it loads.
Strangely i hate the length of their summer range this year. It does look really frumpy. The prints are not as nice as usual so i havent bought anything this year. I would have bought a nice tunic dress had they had them similar in style to the one i had from last year but they have made all their dresses at an odd length for me at 5ft 5 and i find their tunics fall at an unflattering length for me to wear with leggings so havent bought them either.
Does anyone else think their range this year is rubbish? The one thing i did like was their nautical dress/tunic which i have in red which is lovely.

Alibabaandthe40nappies · 20/07/2013 23:28

I have a couple of bits from Seasalt.

A really lovely heavyweight Breton top I bought last year, and a pair of petrol blue shorts and a knitted sleeveless jumper that I bought this year.

I've avoided their skirts because I think the length would be frumpy on me, the same with the tunics.

The quality is excellent though, and is about the cheapest 100% cotton clothing around at the moment.
