Maxi dress to a wedidng?

Hello,

Advice needed please. I?m 16 weeks pregnant and off to what I think will be a fairly posh church then marquee wedding next weekend. I was planning to wear knee length royal blue 'Closet' dress but the dress no longer fits due to bump appearing all of a sudden.

I have a beautiful French Connection maxi dress that still fits me, which I am considering wearing. However, a friend has said a maxi is too casual for a wedding. What do you all think?

I will wear it with wedges, jewellery etc plus I?m having my hair done, so will hopefully look glam rather than like I am off to a festival.

Buying another dress is an option but I?m reluctant to do so as I?m not quite ready for maternity wear yet and know a ?normal? dress will probably no longer fit in a few weeks.

Selfishly I am thinking that my comfort is more important than anything, especially if it?s a scorcher!

x

A posh-ish maxi is good, a more basic one that's well accessorized is also good. Will be fine!

Thanks Mrs!

Maxi will be fine, there have been loads at every wedding I have been to recently. Its not a cheap market one is it, its French Connection! Put a flower in your hair, nice necklace and nice clutch bag, you will be fine.

Maxi is just a length.

Your friend is assuming that it is a "beach-y" maxi, or that the only maxis that anyone can purchase are beach-type dresses. She is wrong.

There are some long dresses that will be too casual for a wedding and some that will be too ballgown-y. In the same way some knee-legth dresses will be too casual and some (although it's less likely) will be to dressy.

I agree with the others, a maxi is fine. I have worn one to a few weddings when pregnant. It's daft to buy something you won't wear again after the pregnancy. Fab hair, make up, nails and a nice bag will finish it. Do you have long hair? In this warm weather it might be a good idea to water it up, also an up do can look really elegant with a long length dress

Thanks all - you've reassured me loads!
Yep, I have long, curly hair so planning a soft updo. I have a clutch and heels sorted. Just need a new bra as my boobs are growing at an alarming rate!

Thanks again xxxx

Glad to hear you're happy about it now! I'm sure you'll look great.

(please don't let M&S fit you for a new bra though - guaranteed boob disaster)

I wore a maxi to a friends wedding at 35 weeks pregnant last year. It was a posh wedding in a Scottish hunting lodge, and I didn't feel underdressed. (I did feel like a space hopper though, but that's another story! Wink)

I'm looking for lovely maxis for a wedding next month and am not pregnant! I think it's become much more of a normal option for weddings. There was a phase when everyone was in little knee-length frocks and heels but like all trends it's swung the other way again.

I wore a French connection dress to my sisters wedding . I had just had ds but was very fat . It was comfy and looked ok ..
