My wedding and my Updo - help

OK, I'm 40 and getting married in 2 weeks. This is my wedding dress. I would have preferred my hair down (brown and just past shoulder length) but I think the back of the dress is crying out for an Updo..

I had my hair trial a few weeks ago - I asked for body in my hair and a big loose bun at the back as I thought I would like it and didn't want to look like a pinhead. I thought I did like my hair but ever since I've had a lingering doubt that it makes me look older..

So, my question is.. What types of Updo make you look older? What ones make you look younger? And can anyone link please? I'm worried now!

TIA Thanks

Don't be worried, that is a seriously gorgeous dress! I think it does demand hair up, possibly a side bun?

I think severe hairstyles are ageing so keep it soft. Stay away from plaits and too many accesories. However your choice of dress leads me to think you have natural style. What the theme you are going for? Elegant? Romantic? Striking?

I can't get link to work on phone but if you google messy side ponytail the first image is perfect

Thanks bring - I love my dress Grin

I think you're right - think the style I had done was too formal and bouffant.. I need it soft but less body and more modern.. The messy side Updo looks like a real contender, I think I'll get my hairdresser to try that.

I'm not an old looking 40 (I've been refurbishing myself over the last couple of months with beauty treatments!) and I don't dress old but the style I had, although nice, really aged me and I definitely don't want that!

Anyone have any other ideas please? I'm open to suggestion as I'm stressing now! Confused

Sorry, also I'm going for elegant/timeless with a bit of (hopefully!) HOT thrown in Grin

Any other suggestions please? Thank you Grin

Okay, so this has a plait as part of it, but if you wanted it without the plait then that is a general updo which I think would suit most people - certainly not a "mature" look IYSWIM, but also not "teenager" either.

HappyGirlNow · 18/07/2013 13:42

Thank you Hevak that's nice and simple and certainly not bouffant which I'm trying to avoid and think was the problem with my original hairdo..

Okay, so this IMO is a very traditional updo - great for a wedding, but...

this is almost exactly the same but less "perfect" looking IYSWIM?

I think both are lovely, but it depends on your style - and the look of your wedding. Which style in these two links do you prefer and I'll keep looking if my boss doesn't notice what I'm doing, clearly I'm bored at work Grin

Also, are you wearing a veil? If not, then there are quite a few updos which would look great with/without a hairclip thin - something like this concept - maybe not that exact style though.

hevak · 18/07/2013 13:47

*thin = thing

Also, if you're wearing a veil you need to think about how/wear you're going to attach it to your hairstyle.

HappyGirlNow · 18/07/2013 17:02

Aw thanks Hevak! Sorry, caught up in meetings.. I am not wearing a veil and I think probably a bit more messy would look younger iyswim.

I had the second one you linked to in my shortlist already - great minds Grin
