Losing weight - but struggling with clothes

I'm seeing a nutritionist and have lost 1.5stone in the last couple of months. I have at least another 6 weeks with him, with the aim of losing 2-3lbs a week. So hopefully around another stone.

But what do I wear? More to the point, what can I buy to keep me going until I get to my goal of being a size 12?

I started at a big 16 and am now a 14.

I have one pair of white linen trousers, a pair of navy skinny jeans and a 3 or 4 skirts and dresses that actually fit. Everything is else is either blatantly too big, or loose.

What's the best way to cope with this inbetween stage please??

I'm in a similar situation and I'm going for cheap skinnies and leggings from primark with long tops that have some form of waist tie so they can be adjusted slightly. If there are no ties on the top, then I use belts to bring the waist in to suit. I'm also opting for elasticated waist skirts that can be bought a size smaller and will stretch to fit

I hit e-bay and bought a few nice things on there, knowing that I would wear them lots for a few weeks. Imagine you are going on holiday with a limited luggage allowance - what you would pack is what you should buy. Try on ALL your clothes and see what still fits. If you have some "best" stuff that just about fits then wear it, even if it is to the park. you won't be able to in a couple of weeks so it doesn't matter if you get grass stains on it.

You need to keep up with the laundry though

It is so hot that I would buy a couple of vest maxi dresses. Just do a cheapie haul from the sales.

I buy all my clothes from charity shops or Ebay and resell when I lose a size.Good motivation.

Belindaearl2 · 17/07/2013 16:10

Treat yourself to a couple of 'go anywhere' dresses in the sales FWM

Belindaearl2 · 17/07/2013 16:12

Some clever alterations on the 16's will bring them in to fit again, which could save you ££

MelanieCheeks · 17/07/2013 16:16

Hit the charity shops.

Leggings with a wrap tunic.

Buy a funky belt that will go round dresses.

And well done on your weight loss!

I've lost 4.5 stone and have just under the same to go. I've kept things going with Ebay and as I get nearer to goal I'm buying things like wrap dresses which work across a few sizes :)

MelanieCheeks · 17/07/2013 18:23

If you've anything that's really good quality and that you really love - can it be taken in?

pantsjustpants · 17/07/2013 19:33

Jenny - wow that's a hell of a loss, well done!!

Thanks everyone, I just got very fed up. Everything I put on, it feels like, dh says is too big. It's great, but annoying!

I can just about get through this weather I think, and I've just found a pair of shorts that fit Grin.

Will have a look in the charity shops tomorrow, but saw a lovely dress on White Stuff earlier. I might treat myself...

Dresses and belts are definitely the easiest for covering a range of sizes. Something like a fit and flare dress is quite size versatile - if it fits now you will easily be able to wear it with a belt when you are a size smaller.

JennySense · 17/07/2013 21:46

Thanks Pants - it's Cambridge - I've lost around a stone a month :)
[looking forward to falling off the wagon on my hols]
Challenged has good advice there - I've got quite into accesories too which helps to ring the changes.
The problem I've found is not losing all over at the same time - I have hips and boobs a couple of dress sizes smaller than my waist at the moment :(

CerealMom · 17/07/2013 21:52

I've lost 5st to date. Charity, eBay and dress agencies are fantastic. Might never 'shop' again (apart from undies!).

Tip: go to naice shops and try on a selection of their clothes to get a feel for your size in their stuff. Then look at eBay etc...

Well done!

pantsjustpants · 18/07/2013 20:15

Thanks everyone!

Jenny, I couldn't do Cambridge. Far too hardcore for me lol.

Cereal - amazing!!

I'm incredibly chuffed today, I got into a size 12 Grin. I haven't been this size for 15-ish years...

Had a look in the charity shops today, a load of rubbish unfortunately. Saw a friend at school today who had a lovely maxi dress on. She paid £2 from a car boot sale!! Guess where I'll be at the weekend???
