I'm returning to work from maternity leave in 7 weeks time and have realised I need to buy some new clothes to wear.

I work in an office and previously lived in trousers/top combo's but I would like to be a bit more adventurous with what I wear and consider some dresses/skirts, however at the same time I don't want to be uncomfortable and too conscious of what I'm wearing iyswim.

I only have a small budget, I'm a 14/16 and would ideally like anything that would flatter/disguise a wobbly stomach. I would be grateful for any suggestions anyone has?

Thank you!

What about wrap or shift dresses? I'd personally opt for wrap as I find them more flattering but I think it might depend on your overall shape/height so I'd suggest trying both. I'd go for basic colours like black, navy and grey and add colour with bold necklaces, coloured tights when it's cooler and scarves. A few basic cardigans in the same colours would be a good idea as well. If you aren't keen on dresses or feel they don't suit you, I'd go for pencil skirts with tucked in blouses. What kind of shoes would you normally wear? flats or heels? Pencil skirts and shift dresses look fab with heels and wrap dresses look ok with either heels or flats.

Thank you for your suggestions. I wear both flats and heels, although may need some practice walking in heels again as i havent worn them in so long! I like wrap dresses but I worry they may emphasise my tummy?

if you go for a wrap dress, look for one with lots of stretch in it , jeresey fabric as well as it's very forgiving and preferably some ruching over the tummy area, the ruching does wonders to disguise the dreaded mum tum Smile

Moda at George at asda is where I tend to go for knee length three quarter length stretchy dresses. They are nice and flattering for me size 20, so would look even better on someone a few sizes slimmer! They wash well too. If I have to be ultra smart I wear with a black asda jacket, or a black cardi for most days at work.

Thanks, I'll have a look online - if anyone could link any suggestions that would be most helpful too Smile.
