What kind of tops do you wear if you're an hourglass?

I've had a weight loss and need some new tops. I'm sick of what I wear day in day out - Primark vest with Primark short sleeve t shirt in various colours. The t shirts especially don't really do me any favours, they hide my waist completely and make me look 'boxy'.
I have bigish boobs (30G) small waist and big hips. But I also have a reasonable sized mummy tummy which I hate and am trying to get rid of Grin

I'm really clueless as my shape has changed so much with the weight loss. I'm currently a 12-14 on top. Could anyone guide me towards a good style to suit me?

It's really hard, isn't it? I pretty much always wear a plain top -
like this
or this
with a blazer or cropped jacket or fabric biker or denim jacket over it, as the weather dictates.
In hot weather, I tend to wear something like [http://www.hobbs.co.uk/product/display?productID=0113-2389-155T000&productvarid=0113-2389-155T000-BLACK-XL&refpage=tops this]] perhaps with a fitted debim shirt worn open over it.

My staple for days when I want to feel very together is a shirt tucked into a pencil skirt - made for hourglasses. But it's way too hot for that at the moment.

In the getting rid of tummy phase I had a lot of wrap and drape things, like these:

butterflies

plain draped

stripey

plain wrap

patterned with small sleeve

I rate Phase Eight for this kind of thing as you may have gathered! Though they're pricey, even in the sale. Sizing is on the generous side so a 12 ought to be fine for you.

That's all I do really, just million variations on drapey jersey. I occasionally try branching out into floaty cotton, tunics etc but it doesn't really work. Bit boring, but I like my waist, I worked hard for it as you have!

I too have a waist but also a muffin top and mum tum so can't wear anything too clingy (elastane is my enemy) but anything too loose/floaty makes you look bigger and /or pregnant. My favourites are blouses that skim over the curves without hiding them such as this or this. Doing the half tuck like in the first link also helps to give more shape.

Or if you prefer to stick to tees then try ones with a less boxy shape. Dorothy Perkins are often good and I have some from there.

Your description matches me perfectly especially the less than perfect tummy. I really thought when I dropped to a size 12/14 I would be able to wear anything. Unfortunately weight loss plus 2 pregnancies means that my tummy is still a train wreck.

I live in those tshirts in various colours from M&S that Remus linked to as they are flattering on the waist but don't hug the tummy too much. I also have some lovely dressier tops from Hobbs which are a bit smarter but along the same lines. I team it up with various fitted cardigans and skirts/ trousers or jeans. In winter I bought quite a few peplum type tops for work to wear with a pencil skirt. I like emphasising my curves.

Will look up Phase Eight as some of those tops look nice (if only I could get rid of my bingo wings).

The Phase Eight tops are a disaster on me. They make me look huge and make my norks seem to leap put even further, somehow.

If you are rich, a VW draped top will be perfect.

freerangechickens · 14/07/2013 21:50

Ugh, I have such a problem with that. I'm a size 6 (American, so I think it translates to an 8/10) for trousers, but a 12-14 for tops thanks to being a 32DDD. I like wearing something more fitted, so it doesn't make my stomach look bigger than it is, but don't really like looking like I'm trying do draw attention to my boobs. I can't find anything right for tops.

RemusLupinsBiggestGroupie · 14/07/2013 21:52

The reviews on that M&S t-shirt say that it comes up small and clingy. It doesn't ime!

FinallySaidMama · 15/07/2013 10:55

Thank you so much for the ideas! I'm going to go and have a try on in Phase eight and M&S!
