  1. I thought my skin was drying out a bit as I got older, but this heat is making my foundation slide off my face. Do I need primer and/or powder and if so, what do you recommend please?

  2. Need a gift for an 18 year old girl, up to about twenty pounds. Would you go for a) a ring or bracelet, b) something from Mac or Benefit, c) something else and if so, what?

  3. I want a jersey or cotton skirt for slinging on with Converse, knee length or v slightly below and maybe navy or grey. Any ideas please?

Tia. :)

  1. Glossy box do a gift box suitable for the younger generation, about a tenner IIRC.
RemusLupinsBiggestGroupie · 13/07/2013 20:15

Thanks. Don't you have to sign up for several months though?

I find Superdrugs MUA primer to be good and it's only £4. I've been using it and my make up has stayed put despite the heat

DameFanny · 13/07/2013 20:19

In this heat I just go with a mineral foundation. Can't help you with the others.

RemusLupinsBiggestGroupie · 13/07/2013 20:20

Thanks. Will look at MUA but was v disappointed with their eyeshadow and lipsticks.

clinique do a brilliant oil-absorbing cream in a tube that keeps things really fresh all day. They don't call it a primer but it does prime. You only need a tiny bit and you just don't sweat under your make up at all. It's fab for really hot weather.

RemusLupinsBiggestGroupie · 13/07/2013 20:28

The silver bangle is lovely, but need to buy it irl tomorrow.

The Clinique thing sounds good but their skin stuff doesn't agree with my skin v well, on previous experience at least. I'll see if I can get a sample.

www.glossybox.co.uk/miss-glossybox

£7 for a Miss Glossy Box every 2 months, cancel any time.

RemusLupinsBiggestGroupie · 13/07/2013 20:35

Thanks Melanie. Don't really want to be faffed with starting and then cancelling though - just want to buy something in a real shop.

You can use a primer, touch up with powder or try a moisturizer for dehydrated skin or one that's oil-free - or if you don't feel you need a moisturizer at all in the heat, don't use it at all or use only on the dry areas of your face.

For an 18 year old girl, I'd go for something like a MAC 217 brush (£18) or the new Mineralize Skinfinishes in the Tropical Taboo collection. The colour called Soft and Gentle is supposed to be very nice - it's £22.
You could also go for an eye shadow palette from Sleek (sold in Superdrug and other places). Some of them have been used by Pixiwoo, and are £7.99 for a palette with 12 colours.

An Alexander Wang ruched skirt would be cool with converse shoes. There are loads of cheaper alternatives around.

Allthingspretty · 13/07/2013 20:46

I would be tempted to get a Benefit swt with small versiona of products in. There are ones that are packaged like books. Buy.in noots to get adbantage.points

RemusLupinsBiggestGroupie · 13/07/2013 20:55

God I'd love an Alexander Wang but need cheaper and probably less dressy tbh.

Will look out for Sleek, though I have no idea what a Pixiewoo is!

Got this recently, looks fab with my Cons and am quite excited about the prospect of thick tights and boots too. V comfortable.

RemusLupinsBiggestGroupie · 13/07/2013 21:01

Yes, I like that a lot. But I have a couple like that and I'm thinking I'd like a fuller one, maybe.

OP posts:
Catrin · 13/07/2013 21:05

Fuller ones don't appear to exist, unless they are the skater style, but my middle aged thighs are not up to it!

Vibbe · 13/07/2013 21:09

Pixiwoo are two sisters, both makeup artists and on youtube under that name. I don't know if you've heard of the brush brand Real Techniques - but one of the Pixiwoo sisters is behind that.

Personally, I don't see the AW skirts as dressy at all - I've seen loads of women in them for day wear with trainers.
This one is also quite nice IMO: www.dorothyperkins.com/en/dpuk/product/clothing-203535/skirts-203567/grey-smudge-print-tube-skirt-2038131?bi=1&ps=200
It comes in different lengths.

RemusLupinsBiggestGroupie · 13/07/2013 21:11

My thighs are fine with short skirts and opaques, but not with bare legs!

OP posts:
RemusLupinsBiggestGroupie · 13/07/2013 21:13

I like the shape of the navy one, but it's polyester. Don't like the black one but thanks.

Update:

  1. No progress
  2. I bought a studded leather clutch bag and some Benefit stuff
  3. I got this beauty but ideally I'd still like a fuller one too.

Thanks all. Further ideas on 1) much appreciated!

QueenCadbury · 14/07/2013 20:47

remus you could wing your way over to the vogue thread as many on there have jersey skirts so may be able to recommend a fuller one.

RemusLupinsBiggestGroupie · 14/07/2013 20:49

Vogue thread?

OP posts:
QueenCadbury · 14/07/2013 20:54

vogue thread.

There's a lot of inane chat on there but we do talk clothes too!

RemusLupinsBiggestGroupie · 14/07/2013 20:56

Thanks. :)
