My hen night is looming. I have literally nothing to wear. I have been defrumping and ruthlessly threw out everything that looked horrible/frumpy. I have nothing suitable for a evening out - think meal, bar, club.

As if that weren't stressful enough I am also going to a spa. The only swimming costume I have is a maternity one. I'm not pregnant.

I very much wanted to buy thr Very ruched costume as recommended by MN. Unfortunately so did everyone else. Out of stock in my size (14) and my (could just about stuff myself into) size 12.

I'm 5'4". Hour glass, 32h (which makes getting thing to fit tricky), large hips, thin spindly legs (possibly distantly related to Humpty Dumpty). I do have a waist, but also the belly us a bit wibbly since giving birth 6 months ago.

I'd be grateful for any suggestions. Grin

It sounds like you have a fantastically enviable figure! ShockGrin

First off, get a swimming costume with cups - you so cannot do without - you're in luck though because loads of places are having sales of course.

What's your budget like? Vivienne Westwood anglomania is often "dead cheap" and is cut to kill with a figure like yours!

Ashoething · 12/07/2013 10:14

Have you thought about a vintage style dress? Collectif have lovely stuff-I am addicted. They are made for hourglass figures. Sorry I cant do links but I think any of the regina or Dolores wiggle dresses would be ideal.

Trills · 12/07/2013 10:52

Dressipi - put in your measurements, it tells you what shapes suit you.

LimitedEditionLady · 12/07/2013 11:02

A dress that nips in at the waist and flows out such as a tea dress. What kind of colours suit you?not too long to show your legs but have some kind of straps at the top to balance it out.Try a pattern to draw the eye x

DolomitesDonkey · 12/07/2013 11:36

Oh god no - not a tea dress! They are beyond hideous on anyone over an A-cup - I haven't seen one yet which doesn't make the wearer look fat, frumpy and like they're wearing a 7 year old's dress. :( SOOO unflattering.

LimitedEditionLady · 12/07/2013 12:57

In your opinion hun.It was just a thought really depends on wearer

LimitedEditionLady · 12/07/2013 12:59

Lol i actually dont own one tbh cos i suit fitted dresses lol

NumTumDeDum · 12/07/2013 13:45

Thanks everyone for your suggestions! Trills that site is brilliant, I'm going to put ds down for a nap as soon as I can and get the laptop out and do the questionnaire this afternoon.

Dolomites thank you for your kind comment! I think I have been trying on everything that doesn't suit (ie everything in fashion currently) and feeling lumpy and fat, these flowing overshirts are lovely - on the hanger - on me boxy and wide because you can't see my waist.

Re tea dresses, I love them, but they don't love me. I do need a v or scoop or even a square neckline otherwise I have a uniboob which is not a great look. But yes a dress that nips in is probably best.

It's my bust that causes the most problems, it's massive because I'm still bf. I think I'm a bit self conscious about it so I've wanted to cover up. But I don't think they are going to go down massively so I ought to get used to them and learn to dress them!

Sorry, you asked me about budget. Not very big. Trying to pay for the wedding without borrowing money so I don't want to ruin the hard work budgeting I've done by having a massive splurge but, I don't want to look hopelessly out of place amongst my very fashionable friends (who all work and have no children!). I think high street prices really.

Trills - that site is brilliant!

daimbardiva · 12/07/2013 18:08

A couple of months ago several friends of mine vought some very flattering swimsuits from tesco of all places - primary colours, cups and really showed off the waist. This has reminded me I meant to go and get one!

daimbardiva · 12/07/2013 18:09

*bought!

NumTumDeDum · 12/07/2013 19:06

Hey
Getting rid of stuff is great! What about this floaty abtract floral number? Really pretty and no need to worry about your tummy if your sat around munching and chatting? I bought a Mary Portas costume with a knot to the front which was my cover my wobble up at the spa costume. I can't find one at the minute but if I do I'll let you know x

This Wal G draped jumpsuit (in sapphire blue or black)

Price: £36
Pros:

  • Lots of draping (moreso than appears from the photo) but fitted in the right places
  • a belt that sits on/just below the waist to emphasise your curves
  • cowl neck to disguise yet flatter your bust
  • you can wear a bra with straps and Spanx underneath
  • it has a lot of stretch, making going to the loo a doddle (easy to pull it down your arms and past your bum)
  • the fabric lets more air through than you realise/would expect, which helps in the warmer-than-usual weather we are having
  • can be dressed down (wear with flat ballet pumps and minimal jewelry) or up (see below)

These New Look Black Strappy Block Heel Gladiator Sandals

Price: £27.99
Pros:

  • the platform lengthens your legs, stopping you from looking top-heavy
  • the heel is thick enough to make it more comfortable than heels of comparable height
  • the gladiator detail looks great against the jumpsuit

Go all out with your accessories to contrast with the relative simplicity of the jumpsuit e.g.

NumTumDeDum · 13/07/2013 08:09

Thanks, I'm loving the two Wal G suggestions. The colour is lovely and will make a change from my usual black! Some trying on to do!

PS - re the jumpsuit, rather than just tie the belt at the back, try looping it round your waist to settle in a loose sideways knot at the front. Personally, I think it would look better.

PPS - Happy hunting! Grin
