Any views on Birkenstock fit? Are they true to size?

No, you need to buy a size smaller as they are large fitting.

xmarksaspot · 10/07/2013 22:26

Yes they are quite large

EduCated · 10/07/2013 22:44

Go down a size, I am consistently a Size 7 but wear a 6 in Birkenstocks.

5madthings · 10/07/2013 22:45

Go down a size, I am a four and need a three In Birkenstock.

SanityClause · 10/07/2013 22:54

Do be careful, though.

I see lots of people with their toes touching the edges. There should be a little space all around, to allow for movement of the foot in the "dish" when walking.

I am a 5.5, and wear a 6 (39) in Birkenstocks, although I can wear DD2's 38s, and they feel comfortable if I pop them on to take out the rubbish, or whatever.

BikeRunSki · 10/07/2013 22:55

Size down

HellonHeels · 10/07/2013 22:56

Thanks everyone!

Size down at least!

hiddenhome · 10/07/2013 23:04

They're also quite wide, so the size down helps with that too.

TickleMyTitsTillFriday · 10/07/2013 23:09

I'm normally a five but am a three in birkenstocks.

ClaireOB · 11/07/2013 10:52

Birkenstocks come in two width fittings, standard and narrow - link - but many of the online retailers sell only the standard width fittings. I never really got on with them until I discovered, in Germany, that I should be wearing the narrow fitting.

FriendofDorothy · 11/07/2013 10:59

Size down. I am a 6 but wear size 5 Birkenstocks.

orangeandemons · 11/07/2013 11:09

Why are they so uncomfortable? I have just bought me first pair. My feet ache walking in them, and they make my legs really tired.

I bought them for work as a teacher. I had to go home and get changed at dinner time, as my legs and feet felt so tired. I have worn loads of other similar types of shoes.

FriendofDorothy · 11/07/2013 11:17

You need to keep wearing them. Your feet and legs will get used to them and then they wil be the most comfortable shoes you have ever worn.

WandaDoff · 11/07/2013 11:21

They need breaking in first.

missmartha · 11/07/2013 11:30

I'm a 5 and my Birkies are a 5 too. Have I got weird feet?

viewwitharoom · 11/07/2013 14:54

No missmartha, unless I have too! I am a 7 and wear a 7/41 in Birkinstock. There is an explanation somewhere on the Birkenstock website to advise on fitting and your foot needs to fit correctly in the footbed. Look for the different widths too as stated further up. I have some with a soft gel footbed which are bliss!
Check out the German sites, including amazon.de because the range available in the UK is only a small part of what they offer!
Love my Birkis!

dozily · 11/07/2013 14:59

I'm a size 4 and wear size 4 Birkies. They don't seem too big at all Confused

HoneyDragon · 11/07/2013 15:01

I'm a 5 and size 5 fits perfectly

IvanaCake · 11/07/2013 18:08

I'm a 7 and wear a 7 in birkies. I don't find them big at all...just right.

RememberingMyPFEs · 11/07/2013 18:23

I'm a 4 and my Birkies are a 3. There is space around as there's meant to be. I wonder if its something to do with arch position?
I have about 7 pairs and I luff them lots. Especially my currently heavily preggers self.

wickedfairy · 11/07/2013 19:18

Mine are true to size, a 5. As said earlier, check out the website for the explanation of best fit!

AnythingNotEverything · 11/07/2013 19:29

Wow - I'm an 8 normally but wear a 39 (wide) in Birkenstocks. Thought everyone sized down. Obviously not!

HeavenlyYoni · 11/07/2013 19:41

Clown shoes here = I went up a size to an 8 Blush

GrandPoohBah · 11/07/2013 19:41

I'm a 5 and wear a 5.

Have a look in TK Maxx - they had a load in there for £25 a pair recently.
