In need of a summer dress!

Oh wise MNers. I have, i discovered today, no summer clothes suitable for the office. Last years clothes no longer fit or are so old they are in shreds.

I'd like a nice summer frock, suitable for a 40-something that can be worn with flats, not frumpy, not too short or too formal/corporate (we have no dress code at work) and covers the biggest and ugliest of nursing bras. If i could breastfeed in it that would be a bonus, but i realise that's probably not realistic.

I tried finding something in my lunch hour today but it was an epic fail. I think I've lost my style mojo.

Help!

Anyone? Or is it a lost cause?

I love wearing dresses when it's hot, my office is pretty relaxed on the dress code front which means i get to pick and choose how i dress in the heat (and today it's already 31°!). A decent cut shift shape is the way to go for hiding bras, given that they're not too cut away on the shoulders, IYSWIM.

I've got some really good workwear from Gap recently - a couple of dresses that are very cool and comfy and lined too, which is sometimes difficult. I found a plain navy and a spotty one which look great on.

A couple of years ago i got some good knee length dresses from H&M but havent been recently so not sure if they still do something similar.
I've also got some from Debenhams - J. Conran which hang nicely, but they have a loud print on them.

Just trying to think where else i get my dresses from - perhaps its worth looking in somewhere like TKMaxx where the choice can be huge (but you've got to want to look !).

I have some nice ones that come from 1,2,3 over here but not sure if they ship to england? worth a look.

Good luck, a decent dress can last ages and look great!

a shirt dress?
very 40s
great colour
I think you could bf in one of those too?

Id avoided shifts as being too formal (everyone would think I'm off to a wedding or an interview). But i might try gap. I haven't looked there for a few years since they started using cheaper and cheaper fabric (their tshirts were practically see thru at one point). Not sure i have the energy or patience for TKMaxx though. Ill take a look at jasper conran next..

Shirt dresses might work! Not too smart, nice and relaxed, although they look a little short and flimsy (have had too many potentially knicker exposing episodes with light, gathered skirts on windy days Shock)

I bought this flared skirt button front in both coral and camel. Very comfortable and easy to dress up or down.

Almost bought this little blue number
when perusing the White Stuff sale this morning....

Oooh, lovely. I like both of those. What shoes would you wear with them?

I have a Joules dress, a couple of years old, v similar to tgat Jaeger one, which I wear all the time for work in the summer.

I've worn the camel one to work with low heeled camel/ coral suede sandals, with the self tie belt. Pale green jacket and a scarf combining all those colours.

Also worn to the theatre with black and white fancy heels, a thin black belt, white jacket and black/white chunky necklace.

Sounds fab! Ok. I'm on the look out for something similar. I hope Joules still does them. Thanks everyone.
