2nd date - dress or do I dare to wear shorts??

I don't have a suitable dress or shorts by the way but hoping I can find out the general consensus then you lot can point me in the right direction with what to buy!

So 2nd date, met on a night out so he has already seen me quite glam. I'm meeting him this weekend for a very quiet drink. It's going to be hot though and after joining the gym fairly recently, I'm quite liking my legs. So much in fact that I might get them out!

So I was thinking maybe tea dress type thing but now I'm thinking why not shorts. Nice shorts. Thing is I don't want to wear heels. I want to be kind of smart casual, not feel like I'm trying too hard. Would shorts with nice top/jewellery and flat sandals be a bit dull?

Please wise mumsnetters give me your opinion. And if it's a yes for shorts, where on earth do I get some nice ones?

How old are you both? Is this day time drinks?

In our 30s and it's just a quiet drink at around 7. Do you think no to shorts then? Maybe a dress? I've been looking on the Oasis website which has some lovely dresses in the sale but a too many really. I can't quite decide what would be best!

I think shorts are nice, but I've only ever worn then very dressy little black shorts (when I was I my 30s) or longer shorts for day wear.
I think a nice dress is easier.

If I wear a dress though do you think flat sandals are ok? I really can't be arsed tottering about in heels. Was thinking maybe even wedge sandals??? Clutching at straws.

Karbea any ideas for a nice dress? I've seen nice shapes but wrong colours. I tend to suit blues and greens if that's any help?

I think a tea dress with flats would be fine, it would be casual enough for a quiet drink, but you'll look great :)

this is sweet.

You could wear flat sandals or wedges definitely.
