A 40s style tea dress would be nice in this weather. Haven't been able to find any nice ones so far. Any suggestions?

yeah, 40s is much harder ot find than 50s, this lovely though. Comes in plenty of prints and several colours of fine polka dot.

DoctorRobert · 08/07/2013 21:21

What makes a tea dress 40s style?

MrsLettuce · 08/07/2013 21:30

The cut, surely?

TWinklyLittleStar · 08/07/2013 21:33

Yes but how is a 50s tea dress cut compared to a 40s one?

rubylovesshopping · 08/07/2013 21:49

Don't know for sure but skirts in 50s were fuller maybe more fabric available once rationing ceased! Speculating wildly and hoping someone will come along with correct facts!

cantdoalgebra · 08/07/2013 22:06

Both the dress from House of Fraser and Warehouse are far too short to pass as a 40's or 50's dresses.

flared skirt shirtwaistear

I loved this so much I bought it in coral and camel. Have seen pics of Kate in the yellow.

Thanks ladies. This was my inspiration...
thestylewatcher.wordpress.com/2013/01/14/bottega-veneta-ss-2013-campaign/
... though not my price bracket
The sort that would suit me would be fitted/buttoned in the top half, and not too full in the skirt.
The search goes on!

Oh, that's seriously gorgeous sergeantmajor.

Yesterday I impulse-bought a little tea dress from a local vintage-y boutique. It's polyster Shock and has an elasticated waist Shock but for all that it is really very pretty. Turquoise with sort of 60s-Hawaiian print flowers in deeper green, white, and palest pink.

...Ooh! I just checked the label (Kling), Googled and found my dress. here it is. A skinny belt improves it again. Is short though.

Cath Kidston does fantastic, authentic-looking tea dresses from 40's to 70's. Smile There was a lovely 40's blue strawberry one earlier this summer. Ebay has a lot but be prepared to pay almost what they cost new.
