are these for swimming?

Ok, stupid question alert.

I ordered these: www.fatface.com/shorts-and-crops/firework-floral-boardies/invt/41763?colour=Multi%20Blue

because I am fat and wanted something to wear in the water that would cover me up a bit more than a swimming costume. I ordered the tankini top to go with them.

But now I'm wondering a bit. I assumed that they were board shorts like surfers wear, so yes suitable for swimming. And they seem like they're made of swimwear sort of fabric.

But they're listed under 'shorts', they have pockets, and the blurb on the site says 'matching swimwear available', as if they weren't swimwear.

Am I going to look ridiculous (well, more than I would anyway) wearing these on the beach? And will they dry like normal swimwear?

I cant face trkking for days rou d te shops so wondered if anyone can please point me in the direction of some simple, cute sundresses for my hols! Can be plain, striped, dotty- not fussy- but not too short- just above the knee is perfect.

Thank you!

Oops that was meant to be a new thread!

PestoSwimissimos · 08/07/2013 15:12

Picklefish yes those are for swimming or surfing or whatever. They slip on over your swimmers and are designed to dry out fairly quickly.

snowgal · 08/07/2013 15:13

If they are like normal board shorts they will be made of quick drying material. They should be fine for swimming although they will create a bit of drag, I imagine they are predominantly meant for surfing and water sports in general. You'll look absolutely fine on the beach/at the pool in them, in fact it sounds like a perfect solution!

PickleFish · 08/07/2013 15:29

thanks for the reassurance! Maybe not for lane swimming in a proper pool then? (though I am a fairly slow swimmer anyway, doubt drag would slow me down too much!!) But ok for beach/paddling/dipping in a hotel pool/swimming in the sea etc?

over swimmers though? That was all I was planning to wear on the bottom. No bikini bottoms or anything, couldn't possibly face buying those when they'd look ridiculous on their own, seems a waste of money!! And as it's got a tankini top, then I can't wear a one-piece cossie either. Do I need something under? They have velcro and laces to tighten (and elastic waist) so unless they get very heavy when water logged they shouldn't come off.

Yes, definitely wear 'em over cozzie or bikini bottoms.

PickleFish · 08/07/2013 16:18

oh no, really? More shopping then...

Why, will they fall down when they get wet? Shock

OP posts:
snowgal · 08/07/2013 16:29

No, they won't fall down but the seams won't be at all comfortable iykwim!

PickleFish · 08/07/2013 17:18

Oh I see. I'd not really thought about that side of it!

Hmm, might need some experimenting. I guess I could get bikini bottoms too, but just seems a waste if they'll never be worn on their own.

Just get some cheep supermarket bikini bottoms.

I'm sitting in my board shorts as I type, being messing about with the DCs in the pool.

Mine are pulled over an ordinary swimming costume. I don't do Bikinis.

PickleFish · 08/07/2013 17:54

Maybe I'll find some cheap ones to order somewhere; I can only imagine the look on a sales person's face as I go in to a changing room with size 18 bikini bottoms..

Or perhaps I'll take the tankini top back, and maybe I can get a plain navy one-piece cossie, and just wear the board shorts over top of those - that might be a thought, if I can find a cheap one somewhere.

At least I have a couple of weeks still!

And I just thought, if I didn't have an bikini bottoms or something, then they might be more revealing than I intend!! Depends how tight they are around the legs I guess. Hadn't considered that. Right, going to have to find a cossie or cheap bottoms.

At my local pool the kids swimming teachers wear them in the water with the complex' logo tshirt & over their swimmers, so they must be ok/dry easily. Sainsburys have cheaper version.
