Etiquette Q - when to take my hat off at a wedding?

I'm off to a wedding next sat and with a newborn will struggle to do my hair so I have bought a hat. I know if the Bride's mother wears a hat guests should wait til she takes hers off before they can follow suit. But what if she doesn't wear a hat? When should I take mine off? Do I have to take my hat off? It's a civil wedding so are the rules different? Also it's a hatinator not a full hat so does that stay on? Basically the effort I put into doing my hair is dictated by your answers!

If it is not a full hat.. keep it on the whole day. I often take it off after speeches/meal and go out and put it safely in the car but if you like it .. keep it on .. have a lovely day and congrats on babba Smile

Personally I'd take it off as soon as you want once the service and photos are done, definitely don't wear it throughout the meal, I find it odd when people keep their hats on whilst they're eating.

I honestly don't think you need to observe what the mother of the bride is doing, most people wouldn't even know that's a 'rule'.
