When you wash your hair. Does it make any difference how much you massage it in?

The shampoo ? Or how long you leave it on. Does anyone rinse and repeat?

Yes always rinse and repeat.

MrsBertMacklin · 06/07/2013 15:01

I never rinse and repeat and leave the 'poo on for as little time as possible. Once I can feel that it's got down to the scalp and is evenly distributed, it's rinsed straight off. So treat it the same as soap on my body when I'm washing, I suppose.

I think it does matter! When you go to the hairdresser they always give your hair a good scrub and it seems to stay cleaner for longer!

EliotNess · 06/07/2013 16:50

Do you think? They rinse and repeat there too don't they

I always rinse and repeat. The repeat wash always feels foamier, soapier and nicer than the first

Cheesymonster · 06/07/2013 16:55

I always thought rinse and repeat was a marketing ploy to get you to buy twice as much.

EliotNess · 06/07/2013 16:56

Me too. I thought people stopped doing that in about 1980

My hair feels very different with just one wash.

JazzDalek · 06/07/2013 16:59

I always rinse and repeat. Part of me thinks it is just a scam to get you to use it up and buy more, but I do find my hair feels better after a second wash Confused. Maybe because I usually have various products in it, so the first wash is just to get them out, and then the second to clean the hair properly.

thepurplepenguin · 06/07/2013 17:45

If you use sls-free shampoo you need to rinse and repeat to get a proper lather

Amazinggg · 06/07/2013 19:18

Always rinse and repeat. And only massage gently into the scalp without scrubbing at hair lengths - it really breaks hair. And while we're on it, only squeeze and pay dry with a towel, no rubbing like your mum used to do!

Snog · 06/07/2013 19:37

It depends on how dirty your hair is. If you don't use styling products and don't live somewhere like London with dirty air then once is fine

EliotNess · 06/07/2013 19:47

It says online - no piling on top of the head

Shampoo opens the hair shaft so the idea is that the shaft is open on the second wash so the second load of shampoo can actually clean the hair rather than just opening the shaft.

Conditioner closes the shaft, but cold water works almost as well at doing this.

OddBoots · 06/07/2013 21:49

I rinse and repeat but I only use small blobs each time.

piprabbit · 06/07/2013 21:55

If the first wash doesn't feel foamy enough then I rinse and repeat. If it was lovely and bubbly then I don't bother.

EliotNess · 06/07/2013 22:07

That sounds vollocks science The hair shaft stuff

It sounds more like pores on your face? Surely washing hair isn't about declogging the inner hairs? Confused and conditioner just coats the hair to make it feel soft and smooth, and offers some protection against breakage and can make it feel a bit thicker and stronger. Cold water can't do any of that.
