What's the best product for eye 'tightlining'?

Hi
I'd really like to try the tightlining technique on my eyes but what sort of liner should I use? I have a clinique quickliner which I've tried but i have to use a bit of pressure to make it show up which can be a bit uncomfortable in that delicate eyelid area.
Any suggestions welcome, thanks.

I've been using a NYX jumbo eye pencil (can get on ebay/ amazon in LOADS of colours or from their website).
I've got hazel eyes and use a purple one and it really makes my eyes vividly coloured. Also found a dark purple almay mascara which adds to the whole effect too

What's tightlining?

I use a purple rimmel pencil/crayon for tightlining. I have very pale blue eyes and it makes them "Pop".

again- what is 'tighlining?'

do you mean a thin line close to the lashes?

SingingSilver · 06/07/2013 14:46

Tightlining is lining the waterline of the eyes, inside the lashes. I do it on my upper eyelid because it makes my lashes look fuller.

I really really like Laura Mercier cake eyeliner for tightlining. It goes on wet, with a flat brush and you have to be careful not to blink until it dries, but then it stays put all day.

Fun to use, too!

I use clinique gel eyeliner or urban decay 24/7 pencil , it's bloody hard not to transfer it to the bottom waterline by blinking and I'm not keen on that look.

You need something really waterproof. Avon gel (but they're pencil) supershock liners are the business and also easier to use to tightline than a brush.

Missbopeep · 06/07/2013 22:18

it sounds dangerous- is the product safe to go in your eye because it will.

AntoinetteCosway · 06/07/2013 22:38

So will your mascara, eye shadow and any other liner, in tiny amounts. Tightlining (the top) and the waterline (bottom) are both quite common. I'm pretty sure it's not dangerous unless you poke yourself in the eye!

Tightlining isn't lining the upper waterline, it's lining the base of the upper lashes. You lift your lashes and line there.www.youtube.com/watch?v=GdKR6V2qgS4The Laura Mercier cake liner is designed for this.

Tightlining is lining the upper waterline...

At least that's what it was called when I did my MUA training.

Another vote for Laura Mercier cakeliner. I love it, and it stays put all day. Takes seconds once you get the hang of it, and I've never had a problem with it transferring to the bottom.

Shall I counter with another site that says the opposite? ;) We're talking about a difference of less than a mm so shall we just assume there's more than one method? Every MUA I know does it with the waterline method when doing make up on someone else as there's a larger area to aim for and it's safer; they then keep the eye open for a few seconds so it dries. When doing it on yourself you could more easily do the lash line. Either way, I don't think there's a wrong way of doing it!
