Bikini Line

Hedwig06 · 30/06/2013 18:53

I currently shave my bikini line, but I'm getting little red raised spots/dots, where I shave from the crease towards the top of my leg, which shows with pants/swimming cossie on

Is there anything I can do to minimise this?

No to waxing though.

Thanks x

Why no to waxing? I get this problem, but now I have it waxed (and it isn't painful at all) the problem has disappeared.

The other option is to use some kind of hair remover.

Karbea · 30/06/2013 19:21

Is it sore?
I wax as well, not sure why anyone would shave done there, isn't the regrowth prickly?

MrsLettuce · 30/06/2013 19:52

Apply roll-on / cream deodorant after shaving and if you feel any irritation - It'll sort it smartish.

Are you using a razor made for men? I find that they're the best (beard growth is tougher and more dense), also IME it's best use conditioner or oil to rather than a shaving foam / gel. Do shave with the direction of hair growth, preferably while stretching the skin. Certainly never against the hair growth without stretching. Running the shower over the area whilst you work gives a smoother result.

Waxing people - what do you do in between waxes as I go swimming frequently so can't allow it to grow really long like my waxer told me to. I left my legs for 2 weeks without shaving and she said it wasn't long enough!

Karbea · 01/07/2013 07:14

You can wax every 10 days.
Personally if I was desperate I'd probably epilate, the odd hair or two if I needed to.
The more you wax the less hair you have.

Bunbaker · 01/07/2013 07:41

My waxing lady told me that using an epilator cause more ingrowing hairs than any other form of hair removal. This certainly was my experience.

GobblersKnob · 01/07/2013 09:30

I have this, I (foolishly) had another attempt the other day and now and dot-tastic Hmm

Am shaving with new men's razor with the growth, have tried shave stuff, oil, conditioner, roll on everything. NOTHING makes any difference or stops it.

Waxing gives me big red angry lumps and a milllion ingrown hairs.

Have given up, am never doing it again, will stick to trimming and big pants and bikini bottoms.

Hedwig06 · 01/07/2013 10:36

Thanks everyone for the advice, its really pissing me off now, I make more of an effort than I ever had, (getting older). But this is really bugging me, I'll try switching to a men's razor for my next try if not I'll join you GobblerKnob and go to big pants.

I also said no to waxing as I'm a wuss, I can barely keep it together enough to have my eyebrows waxed Grin

When I shaved (only wax now) I used baby powder and shaved the area dry. I found it the only way not to come up with an ugly shaving rash. And make sure that you use a nice sharp razor.

You could use Veet. I don't like it though as it makes the hair grow out thicker imo.

Hedwig06 · 01/07/2013 11:46

I've tried Veet lollylaughs but I think mine must be made of wire, it didn't touch it!

Hedwig I also found that the Veet just doesn't work as well anymore. Try the dry shave with baby powder or pluck (no pun Grin) up the courage and have a bikini wax. You don't have to wait until its really long, they can wax it when its shorter. Just bear in mind when you first wax then hairs will regrow at a different rate. When you shave it doesn't get them from the root, so you may have to go back after 2-3 weeks at first.

Why don't you wear a pair of swimming or board shorts over your bikini bottoms during the regrowth time if it really is very visible.

PoshPaula · 01/07/2013 15:54

Waxed for years, this led to huge problems with ingrowing hairs, reactions, rashes etc.
Don't get on with creams etc. So eventually have settled on shaving with a mild soap, a Venue razor, and I don't go too 'high' - just up to where the normal pant line is, if you see what I mean. The rest of it I can sort out with a trim. Too much info, I know, but I don't want to go with the really big pants or the little skirt options, personally!

PoshPaula · 01/07/2013 15:54

Sorry Venus razor.

NumTumDeDum · 01/07/2013 16:09

I use the Witchstick on it, it's meant for facial blemishes but works on your bikini too. The witch hazel gets rid of the redness very well.

KatyS36 · 01/07/2013 19:14

Another option could be to shave with an electric razor? This worked for me when i was younger and before students did things like waxing :)

Hedwig06 · 02/07/2013 07:47

Ooh witchstick I hadn't thought of that thanks I'll give it a go I'm popping out today to the shops so I'll have a look at the men's razors too.

Xx

There's a product called tend skin which is really good for ingrown hairs. Think it's basically alcohol with aspirin.

Hedwig06 · 03/07/2013 06:56

Have you used it 1gglepiggle its quite expensive ...

OP posts:
Karbea · 03/07/2013 07:37

I've used tend skin, it's ok but a layer of skin used to come off.
I just wax as I said before and regularly exfoliated, and pick out with tweezers any in growing hairs I see.
