What do you actually need for a two week holiday in the med?

Clothes-wise that is. This is the first holiday I've been on abroad since having dc, and given that dc1 is nearly 20, we're talking quite some time! I'm daunted by the thought of packing. Can you knowledgeable people tell me what I should take please? Tia Smile

Bikinis - at least 2 and wash them out each evening (take some hand wash liquid)
T shirt or vest dresses, to sling on over a bikini or to wear for sight-seeing trips. Topshop usually quite good for these.
Shorts - I find H&M pretty good for these usually.
Vest tops to wear with shorts, or cotton brorderie with little sleeves for days when you want your shoulders covered - these feel light and cool and look pretty.
Jersey, cotton or silk dresses for the evening, maybe a maxi - all quite casual.
Flip flops for the pool and beach, sturdier sandals for days out, prettier sandals for evenings - all flat.

Where do you usually shop and what's your style?

gorgeous

I suppose it depends on your age, body, etc. And what you are planning to do. For me it would be:
Couple of swimsuits with light weight kaftan or sarong for beach/pool.
I prefer skirts to shorts, but avoid linen as I can take the creased look, so I'd take a couple of those, with matching 4 or 5 teeshirts/tops.
A pair of light-weight trousers.
Long sleeved shirt in case it is cooler or to protect from sun when out shopping or sightseeing.
Cardi for cooler evenings
Dress or two for evenings / dressing up. Haven't found one I like that fits me yet, but I'd like a maxi and knee length.
Shoes - couple of pairs of sandals (can't do flipfops) and comfy shoes for walking.
And travel wash in case one outfit is most useful and gets grubby.

Don't forget a hat and great sunglasses. Good for keeping up the glamour factor with the locals. Last time I went to Italy (even some years ago) I felt like a bag lady compared to the local women.
Where in the Med are you going?

RemusLupinsBiggestGroupie · 30/06/2013 12:54

I find this sort of thing v useful.

Love this

Little sleeves

But these are expensive and tbh I'd start in H&M.

I live here, and everyone wears cut off denim shorts with vests/t shirts, flip flops or sneakers like bensimon and sunglasses all day.

Thanks for the replies, been out so apologies for not getting back sooner. Going to Tenerife on my own with the four dc, so not quite sure whether I''m looking forward to it or not!

Love all the White Company links.

Brave lady! When are you going? The WC stuff might come down a bit more in price.

FarleyD · 30/06/2013 22:26

Brave or stupid?! Going 25 July. Price reduction would be most helpful. Bit frightened to actually go in there as, chances are, I'll see way more than three things I like.
