"Mummy! We look like twins!"

said DD this morning.

We were getting ready for a day out and she walked into my bedroom all ready. She is wearing a long sleeve stripy top, black skinnies and black flip flops. So am I. Only difference is that her clothes are a bit smaller and she is 7, while I am 44.

Think I might get changed...

ESP aka Mutton dressed as Lamb. Sad

When I was wee my Mum & I had summer dresses with a similar pattern on them. I could never understand why we couldn't wear them on the same day.

I do now...

My mum once, in the depths of baby sleep deprivation after the birth of my brother, put on a navy dress with white trim to go to the beach, she then dressed me (2) in a sailor style dress. She didn't realise until we arrived and was furious that my dad hadn't noticed/pointed it out.

I still think the photos from that day look quite cute/like a GAP advert.

This sort of happens to us a lot..... but not by planning, and I'm not sure how concerned about it I should be......

DD, 3, is my double. It gets commented on all the time how alike we look (and I mean in appearance generally, not clothes). My family comment frequently about how she looks identical to me at that age - and I can see it from the photos (except she has bob, not a pudding basin hair cut!)

Because of this, we tend to suit the same colours, and cuts......

Need to clarify that she absolutly wears age appropriate clothing, as do I, but still.....

I never try to intentially match us, but it does tend to happen.....

Er, how bad is this?

I hav this with my 17 yr old DD.
We both live in skinny jeans and vest tops and every so often we'll have the same colour vest on.
Most of our skinny jeans are the same colour denim and add in the same colour canvas shoes!Grin

My dd plans this - and looks all sad when I ask if one of us should change - so I endure it because it really makes her happy, if you see me with her and we are dressing the same - remember it's just me being nice and not breaking a little girl's heart - deep down inside I'm just a teeny bit embarrassed.Blush

Agree that younger DDs adore this and find it very special, so I think the joy it gives them outweighs the cringiness of the look. If you actually bump into anyone you know you can whisper "I know it's naff, but it makes it so happy".

AintNobodyHereButUsKittens · 29/06/2013 14:37

Err, "her", not "it" dunno where that come from.

OddBoots · 29/06/2013 14:42

Dh and I often accidentally end up wearing the same colours, it's really cringy when we don't see each other before work then meet up after.

CeeceeBloomingdale · 29/06/2013 19:54

I do this all the time (accidently) with my 6 year old. She loves it so keeps quiet until we are in public then announces it at full volume

LauraPashley · 29/06/2013 19:58

I seem to do this a lot by accident! No identical items, but there are obviously days when you just are in the mood for something, and I still put out the dds clothes for them. So with no conscious thought at all, it ends up that we all wander out wearing roughly the same, eg jumper dresses and tights, or the next time all in various shades of purple, or whatever. I don't think we look too matching, but I still cringe when I realize!

moustachio · 29/06/2013 20:01

i realised at xmas i had bought my DS, my DP and my DB all the same jumper in various sizes from different shops and didn't realise! I think your style choices are reflected in what you buy others!

Beamur · 29/06/2013 20:03

I used to do this with my Mum - by accident - and without either of us seeing what the other was wearing! We'd turn up in almost identical outfits, but with our own style, on a regular basis.
I find I do the same with DD too! There's another Mum I see walking to school a lot and had a laugh with her as she had (without realising it) colour co-ordinated herself and her little boy. Very smart they looked too.

UptoapointLordCopper · 29/06/2013 20:11

I think it's lovely. Smile

TondelayoSchwarzkopf · 29/06/2013 20:12

DS 4 and DH 41 wear exactly the same clothes, skinny jeans, grey tops, trainers, band t shirts.

70isaLimitNotaTarget · 29/06/2013 20:12

DD and I sometimes do this- purely by accident.

But today I bought some Converses and she covets them (even though she's got Converses and Vans and one pair of FEET )

She got black canvas espadrilles the same as mine but I've banned her from wearing them at the same time as me.

UptoapointLordCopper · 29/06/2013 20:12

I only have small DSs and sometimes we dress alike too, even down to hairstyle. Grin
