Parting 'Frizz'

SarcasticMrKnowItAll · 27/06/2013 13:24

I seem to have lots of short hairs at the moment and wherever I part my hair it i end up with bits of hair sticking up and at odd angles, it's driving me crazy! What can I do with them, any suggestions?

It looks slightly better if I let it dry naturally but I don't always have time for that.

I don't have the solution but I'm marking my place because I have this too. Tiny little hairs giving me a little halo of frizz.

SarcasticMrKnowItAll · 27/06/2013 14:16

Hmmm, I thought someone would tell us the answer. Do you think they all know, and they're keeping their sleeky hair secrets quiet? I

I have this too, marking place. Tried serum, hairspray, nothing works!

Smooth and sleek haired swines! Spill!

Do your own Brazillian blowdry (25 quid, Amazon).

Miraculous.

Have you had children in the last couple of years? Mine did this when it was regrowing after the post-natal hair loss. It's just now coming to an end hurrah.

I let mine dry naturally (curly) but if I want to minimise the frizz at the parting I very gently blow dry it and smooth down just at the roots; I don't use serum (makes my hair frizzier) but a very light touch of leave in conditioner and a bit of hairspray smoothed over with palms seems to help.

SarcasticMrKnowItAll · 27/06/2013 16:26

Brazilian blow dry you say? How easy is that?

Yes, I'm assuming the regrowth is from DS, that was 16 months ago now, I feel like I've paid the price and should be allowed a decent hairdo! Smile

Easy enough, but takes about 2 hours. There's a thread in S&B somewhere, which is what alerted me to the miracle. And I had/have loads of baby hair fluff.

Stinks to high heaven, though. Do it near an open window.

pocketandsweet · 27/06/2013 19:25

I had this. My solution in the end was to cut my hair short! Less drastic but helpful. Moving your part slightly. A small amount of hair wax type product to help it lie flat.

freerangeeggs · 27/06/2013 20:39

drumroll

Apparently, when you come out of the shower/bath and wrap your hair in a towel this causes it to snap and break near the roots. The solution is to stop doing it.

I stopped doing it. I have no short hairs now. I told my sister the same, and she's had the same results - although it does get worse before it gets better as the little short hairs need to grow out.

Obviously I don't know if you do that but it could be the reason.

valiumredhead · 27/06/2013 20:41

John Frieda secret agent cream is good for thisSmile

SarcasticMrKnowItAll · 27/06/2013 22:05

Freerange-really? That's interesting, I thought everybody did that? I could stop that.

Off to google secret agent cream.....

I have the same problem and use Label M Hair Polish, like a chubby stick of wax that you rub onto the palms of your hands and then smooth down the fuzzy bits.

Amazinggg · 27/06/2013 22:30

Also point the hair dryer down the hair shaft when you're drying it. Look after the roots and the ends will look after themselves Grin or summat.

Havingkittens · 27/06/2013 23:12

Yes, I recommend Label M Hair Polish too. I use it on shoots for the "hair aura" Problem. It doesn't leave a greasy residue like serums, creams or wax. Other things to try are spraying a fine tooth comb with hairspray - Elnett is good because you can brush it out so it doesn't go too crispy - and then combing from the parting until you catch all the short hairs or rubbing a tiny bit of gel or Paul Michell Sculpting Lotion in the palms of your hands and smoothing down.

SarcasticMrKnowItAll · 28/06/2013 11:09

I've just ordered the Brazillian blow dry kit, hope it works!

I have this too, permanently it seems despite not having had any babies for the last 7 years. My hair has just had a huge moult, which seems to have stopped now so I am expecting (hoping really, as it has definitely thinned a bit) the frizz halo will get much more noticeable in the next few months.

I always do the hair in a towel thing, having learnt from the curly girl technique not to rub wet hair with a towel, 20 mins with a towel on not only lets me put make up and clothes on with it out of the way and without getting soaked but it speeds up drying time significantly, shame if that's what's doing it, I always assumed it was new growth.
