This dress for a celebratory lunch?

I've been invited to a friend's celebratory engagement lunch and I was told the dress code is smart/casual (this is absolutely no use to me, I really don't understand how to dress 'smart/casual'). The lunch is at a very nice restaurant in the city centre. I was thinking of wearing this dress: www.asos.com/ASOS/ASOS-Skater-Dress-With-Lace-Angel-Sleeves/Prod/pgeproduct.aspx?iid=2593859&r=2 (in blue), with nude pumps and an oversized nude clutch. Natural looking make-up and long, wavey hair. Any thoughts on the dress? What do you think to the arm detail? I'm 6ft, a size 12-14 and busty if that helps. Many thanks for all opinions!

That'd be a bit much I'm afraid - too eveningy. The model is 5'9" so it'd be very, very short.

this in the jade?

i agree it's too much, sorry. if you want to wear a dress, something from Reiss will probably hit the mark for smart casual at a nice city restaurant...

Sorry, hate that dress and the arm things, no no no!

mrslettuce that dress is lovely, but anyone under 35 wearing it might look a bit mumsy...?

mango what is your style, where do you shop?

defineme · 24/06/2013 19:41

You sound like you're lovely, but that dress is too short/too low and too ott for smart casual lunch-though tthe pumps and clutch would be great with other suggestions.

RemusLupinsBiggestGroupie · 24/06/2013 19:50

Sorry but I agree with the others - it's totally wrong. I'd do cigarette trousers, heels and a silk top with a blazer if sleeveless or without if with sleeves lovely one here or maybe some sort of jersey dress with wedges and maybe a fabric biker?

If it were me, I'd do a pretty tea dress with nice shoes. Something like this, with nice hair snd makeup, but nothing too over the top.

I agree with the tea dress option, with your height you could still wear pumps or ballet shoe type footwear, if you didn't want heels.
They also suit most body shapes and a longer length one would be just above the knee which is a lovely length imo.
I'd still get the other dress for another occasion, I think its lovely for an evening event.
