Dressing your age!!!!!!

Hi. This is probably very common. I'm 33, soon to be 34 and I'm finding it increasingly difficult to find a sense of style at my age. I have a daughter who is 15 and another who is 7, and I like to think of myself as a young mum. My husband is 29. I always find myself drawn to shops like River Island and Topshop, but then my 15 year old also likes to shop there too. I love french connection but its very expensive.
I love body con dresses, but am I too old to wear one now?? I'm usually quite casual in the day as I have to do the school run etc, so I usually wear skinny jeans and converse or trackies.
But when I go out I like to wear something a little bit glam, for example the body con dresses.
What do you think?? Does anyone else feel the same way?

You are definitely not too old for bodycon dresses! 33/34 is really young still, I think so anyway. If you feel good wearing a bodycon dress then do it!

There's nothing wrong with your DD and you liking the same shops. I'm 25, my mum is 53 and we shop in the same places, like Topshop, Oasis, Warehouse, and Monsoon.

Lol i'm 40 and i shop in riverisland! You are not to old to wear bodycon dresses if you have the figure for it! I went to my 16 year olds parents evening last week wearing skinny jeans, wedges and a vest top and kids asked my son the next day why his sister came to parents evening! I'm far too young at heart for wearing adult clothes!

I got several bodycon dresses, wear hotpants on holiday and couldnt give a toss what other people think i should wear..

And 33 is very young anyhow!

I think more about my shape and tone (or lack of!) and lifestyle, when buying clothes and dressing. I don't think about my age, but I guess shape and tone changes mean I dress just a little different to when I was younger. That's the only nod I make to age. I'm 38 and Elle Macpherson is a good 10 years old and looks amazing. Not frumpy, not ridiculous. So those are the things I would thinking about, if I was you. And if you can wear bodycon, do it! You'll be so sorry you didn't when you are 80!

to be fair i only feel about 21 lol!!! i just find some of the clothes that are instore at the moment quite young in style. I have lost quite a lot of weight so im experimenting with my new figure at the moment (from a size 28 to a size 16).
I also find that when i do make a bit more of an effort in the day time, some of the other mums up the school will ask if im going out!!!!!:-/
I don't see anything wrong with wearing smart casual clothes and taking pride in your appearance.

well done for losing the weight. yes you should enjoy your figure and i agree about taking pride in ones appearance - always makes me feel good when i've bothered to make an effort.

A perennial discussion on S&B! Consenus would appear to be: wear what you like and sod artificial age limits.

I'm (just) over 40 and wear a lot of the stuff nostress mentions. Shop at New Look, H&M, Top Shop, etc.

My DD is not quite as old as yours, but I was happy to hear the other day that amongst her friends I am considered the "coolest mum".

Do doubt in a few years she'll be embarrased by everything I wear (or say, or do).

maybe a confidence issue then??!! Thanks for the responses girls. xx
