Am so excited. DH has booked for us to go to Venice in August for our anniversary. I'd really like some advice about what to wear. I'd like to look a little bit stylish as we are staying at the Danielli. My budget is high st. I'm normally a jeans and t-shirt person although I do have a few nice dresses. Please help me!

What do you already have?

Staples for me would be:

7/8 length trousers in a range of colours - I have black, royal blue, cream, red
Shorts or skorts or mini skirts for sightseeing in the day
Range of smart T shirts to go with above
Flat sandals/loafers/deck shoes/sneakers for lots of walking
Swimming costume or bikini assuming hotel as a pool
Couple of nice dresses for evening

Bear in mind temp will probably be in high 30s

Lucky thing! I'd second numberlock's suggestions - personally I'd go for dresses for sightseeing as I find them cooler than separates. Bear in mind that you should cover your shoulders if going into churches etc to sight see so a cardi or light scarf might be useful. Maybe a light blazer for evenings. Oh, and a massive pair of sunglasses to look chic in!

Oh the Danielli is gorgeous! I stayed there about 5 years ago and I remember my jaw literally dropping when I walked into the foyer - beautiful golden marble and that staircase!

Don't bother with swimwear unless you're planning to take a trip over to the Lido (island, not a pool). Take shoes you can walk in because you will be doing a lot of that. You can wear pretty much whatever you want but make sure it's comfortable (again with the walking everywhere). Take a couple of nice dresses for the evening - not evening dresses, just pretty summery sort of things. If you have room then pack something waterproof, the Acqua Alta is pretty unpredictable these days.

Take a camera to breakfast! The view from the rooftop restaurant is unbelievable. Oh, and make sure you have a Bellini in the hotel lounge at some point - your tastebuds will thank you.

This sort of dress is v easy to wear for sight seeing, maybe with flat tan sandals? They do some nice, light scarves too for shoulder covering.

Venice is very warm in August! How about linens to keep cool!

Yy to cool clothes and comfy shoes but just wanted to say, if you have an afternoon or evening to spare, you must do the Chicetti tour with Cecilia (urban adventures I think the company is called). Not a sightseeing tour, she takes you round the tiny bars talking about Venice as it is today, as you sample the wines and little snacks- it's brill.

I'm so jealous now bah
