What to wear to posh hotel & spa

DH & I have had some bad news about his health this week & a lovely lovely friend has arranged for us to spend a night in a new posh hotel in London which also has a spa & pool where you can chill out.

Just thinking what I could/ should wear around the pool etc. I need to get myself a new swimsuit anyway so will do that & I think they just have robes but just wondering of there's anything else I can take to wear? I'm overweight & quite conscious about just sitting around in my swimming cossie.

Sorry to hear you've had bad news lizardFlowers

I haven't got time to look for links, but my thoughts would be-
Most people do tend to wear the hotel gowns when walking around, so I would Stick to that. But for sitting around, what about a short cover up type thing that you could just slip on over your cossie.

Also I'd take a pair of comfy flip flops for the spa, Havaianas are very good and come in lots of colours.

Sorry I'm not much help but hope you have a fantastic time!

I agree with Lizard and think she's covered everything but wanted to say I'm sorry you've had bad news. I hope you have a good time.

Sorry to hear about your husband.

I have one of these in a different colour very flatering

What about a kaftan to drop over the top of it if you you still feel a little self consious?

I find with that swiming costume becuase I can undo the sides it covers the tops of my thighs (which I hate) and I feel pretty good in it!

Wear the robes is fine and totally normal.

Pagwatch · 21/06/2013 10:17

I have been to loads of posh spas and have never yet seen anyone in a kaftan.
Just wear the gowns provided , not least because if they get damp from swimming etc they will give you a new one.

inneedofrain · 21/06/2013 10:27

Pagwatch, I don´t think it matters much what anyone wears. As long as the Lizard is feels comfortable.

I have to say that I have never worn a robe at the side of the swimming pool (i´ve used various saress type things becuase I feel comfortable in them, to lay on sunbeds, heat beds, in the solariums etc), but I have worn robes when leaving the pool or going to treatments etc.

But I have also found that no one really pays any attention to what someone else is wearing. Everyone is far to busy relaxing them selves.

polyhymnia · 21/06/2013 10:27

I agree - have also been often to posh spas and do think a kaftan would look a bit out of place and beach holiday-ish. Everyone sticks to the gowns in my experience.

So sorry to hear about your DH and hope you have a lovely stay.

ExcuseTypos · 21/06/2013 10:28

I agrees other Pag, I think a short cover up type thing is great for when you're sitting down, but wafting around on a kaftan might be a bit too Margo From the GoodLifeSmile

Inneedofrain
I know. That was kind of my point.

Most people are sitting around in robes, even when lying by the pool unless it is the rare beast of a spa with an outdoor pool. Not many have them so lying by a spa pool is about being cosy and sleeping

If it has a sunbathing area/outdoor pool then by all means get a cover up.
But if it doesn't (which is more common) there is no need to be worrying or fretting about buying a cover up.

I covered this angst with my mum the first time I took her to Pennyhill. Smile

Pagwatch · 21/06/2013 12:44

The Margot from the good life reference just makes me want to rush out and buy a kaftan Grin

Have a lovely time Lizardqueenie. I hope you both enjoy your treat.

Thank you all for your lovely replies and good wishes, some of them did make me giggle which is most welcome at the moment.

Yes I don't want to wander around looking like the Queen of Sheba- think some of the outfits Carrie et al wore in SATC2 in Abu Dhabi! Glam yes but a bit ott. It's def about being cosy & I know they have robes & slippers hoping the robe squeezes around my size 22 arse

Tho I will still take my trusty havaiannas so thank you for that reminder. It was my bday on Monday & I got some monsoon & m&s gift vouchers so may nip by & see what they both have in store.

Thanks again Thanks

Lizard I would say get yourself a cheap cotton waffle style robe (ebay?).

I went on a spa day post DD1 and was a size 20. The robe DID gape at the front and it made me feel really self conscious and unable to relax. They were all a standard size and I would say were up to a 16/18.

Otherwise a phone call in advance just to check that they have robes in varying sizes? Either way agree a robe is the way forward.

Have a lovely time!
