Can changing my moisturiser have caused this explosion of spots?

I do tend to get the odd spot now and then but currently my face is exploding! 3 on my nose, three huge deep painful bubbling ones on my chin, an erruption on my eyebrow and about 3 new white pimples a day for 5 days now. WTF?

I did run out of my usual moisturiser about a week ago and have been using up odds and sods from the drawer.

I'm struggling to believe that a slight variation in the thin sheen of cream on my skin can have caused these immense explosions.

I wash my face with water in the shower every morning and never wear make-up.

Yes, I believe a change of moisturiser can make your skin erupt. I'm sure it has happened to me recently - I used it for about two weeks before I put two and two together and realised it was the moisturiser doing it. Once I stopped using it, my skin calmed down. Although sadly it takes a lot longer to calm down than to erupt in the first place.

Short answer: YES!
Last year I borrowed my dads Nivea when I was staying over and the next morning my face mega erupted.
It happens to me a lot when I just use what's available

But the spots seem to bubble up from so deep in my skin. They are those sore red ones that don't even burst satisfactorily. And moisturiser just sits on top of my skin, regardless of what adverts say.

I get those really deep and sore ones if I've changed my skincare to something that just wasn't for my skin type.

It has happened to me. Get to a pharmacy and buy some La Roche Posay Effaclar K or Effaclar Duo, and that will sort out the spots.

Well hmmm. Maybe is is the cream then. I will buy some of my usual stuff and see if it all clears up.

You know what I miss? That body shop moisturiser from about 20 years ago. It was a smallish coffin shaped white bottle with a dark green pump lid. Nothing has ever been the same since.

Quite possible it's the cream, I hate sun cream for the same reason.

If you are using up odds and sods that have been open for a whi, they may contain bacteria which has caused the spots. Throw the old stuff out. Simple moisturiser is gentle and light or try Aldi.

I hadn't thought it might be bacteria in the cream.

Does that mean then that there exists a bacteria that could be dabbed onto the skin to cause spots at will? Not that you'd want to, obviously.

This happens to me if I change products and at the start of the summer when I begin using suncream on my face. As a result I am very loyal to products that work for me. I'm always amazed how people like beauty bloggers and journalists can constantly try new products and not be covered in spots.

Yes, I tried samples of the red Garnier one with Davina on the ad and it gave me spots within a day or so.

Clinique Dramatically Different does this to me. Other ones that don't agree give me little blemishes. But the Clinique one gives me huge, painful, deep pimples with big heads on. And it took me ages to figure out. I never used it regularly but ended up with a few tester bottles and used them. A friend asked was I using Clinique and said she had known a few people have the same reaction.

Cider I had the same with that! When I was in my early 20s, I wanted to get rid of my teenage skin so 'invested' in some expensive face stuff and got clinique. My spots went much worse, much juicier much better seeing as I'm a sporner and everyone told me that it was the change in moisturiser and the shock of getting into a proper cleansing regime. I lasted 4 months with even worse skin than I started with, and the moment I gave up it got much better.
