Need to curl my hair for party - help!

I have straight hair which I've never curled, and no curling devices.

I am going to an 80s fancy dress party as Kelly McGillis from Top Gun (no comment about the wisdom of this please - it's decided Grin) so I need to curl it a bit.

How do I do that without buying something expensive like curling tongs?? Will also be at PILs house settling the kids down before we go out etc - argh!!

Help me!

Try separating your hair into small sections and then twisting each section and pinning to the top of your head and leave to dry before unpinning. This works best on long hair.

If you have hair straighteners, you should be able to use those instead. You can find guides for how to curl your hair with hair straighteners on youtube if you aren't sure how to do it :)

Fuzzy curls like this top gun pic. are easy.

Go to boots, or local cheap chemist and get a bag of small silicon bands. Use them to tie the ends of lots of small even sized evenly spaced plaits in wet hair. Let hair dry and comb out slightly.

DDs do there's like this quite often, clearly it helps to have a someone else to do the plaits, but it's not essential, they don't have to be very even to work.

Thanks! I don't even have straightners I'm afraid - my hair is very low maintenance usually (fairly long and dead straight).

I think I'll try out either the twists or the plaits and see which works best on my hair - thanks for those ideas. We did plaits in DD1's hair once so she could be Hermione Granger and I was a bit dissapointed with the straight bit on the top before the kinks started, but maybe we needed more, smaller plaits to get it curly higher up.

Startail - yes, I'm going to look exactly like that Wink

Yes you probably need to do three layers of plaits to get it that curly.
