Deoderants/antiperspirants that actually work

hugoagogo · 19/06/2013 20:28

I used to use mitchum, but that no longer works; then I moved on to dove maximum protection, which worked beautifully for a while...

But today I stank Blush

Is it just me? Or are all deoderants just crap and like the emperor's new clothes?

I definitely think they have changed the formula in Mitchum. It just isn;t the same.
I am watching for answers as I need to know too.

DuvetHog · 19/06/2013 20:59

Mitchum not working for me either :-( This is working at the minute though www.superdrug.com/right-guard-female-xtreme-ultra-cool-72hr-roll-on-50ml/invt/248850 I know it's a 72hr one and honesty I shower every day and do not leave it 3 days between washes!!

Lozislovely · 19/06/2013 21:05

I'm a total sweaty Betty and found the only thing that worked was anhydrol forte (sp). It stings to buggery but is the only thing that stops me looking liking I've poured a gallon of water on me pits Wink

I do however still wear Mitchum over the top cos I just feel weird not putting on deodorant in the morning.

cocolepew · 19/06/2013 21:08

I've started to use the Sure Maxim Protection one. Its much better than the Dove. It's usually a bit cheaper in Asda. I'm menopausal and it's working incredibly well on my old woman sweats. Im dry as a bone.

Jbck · 19/06/2013 21:11

Ive found Mitchum different types work differently, Im currently finding the stick one best, but I have spray and roll on as well.
Yesterday I felt stinky though by lunchtime.
Shower at least once daily, clean clothes from pants out daily etc, figure its my age Blush although Im not yet suffering flushes.

hugoagogo · 19/06/2013 21:12

I have tried the right guard one in the black and pink version and was not that impressed; but might give the 'cool' one a go especially as it's on offer at the moment. Smile

Sure maximum protection is really good, it's about a fiver and comes in a box. Worth every penny Smile

EleanorFarjeon · 19/06/2013 22:11

I went through a phase where any and every deodorant/anti p wasn't keeping me dry (it was possibly hormonal).

I tried all manner of extra strength, extra time, industrial strength antiperspirants without success.

The only thing that worked for me is 'Driclor'. You put it on before bed, I use it about once every two months. I still use deodorant during the day but never get sweaty now.

But, oh my God, it stings like a bastard!

hugoagogo · 19/06/2013 22:20

I am too young to be hormonal!

SofaCanary · 19/06/2013 22:38

Nivea men's roll on is the only thing that works for me for some reason.

SirRaymondClench · 19/06/2013 22:41

The Driclor and Anhydrol ones burned me really badly and oh my goodness the stinging! I could never get past that sadly because I love the idea of them.
I don't like my deodorant to smell of anything IYSWIM because them smell of warmed deodorant makes me gag

EMUZ · 19/06/2013 22:45

I use the dove or sure max protection but it works better if put on at night. Then a spray in the morning of any anti perspirant
Used triple dry but it nearly took my skin off Grin

Rocksie · 19/06/2013 23:21

I would wholly recommend Sure maximum protect. I currently put it on in the morning and it works fine but I find that it takes ages to dry so therefore marks my top when I put them on.

It does instruct you to put on night before but have always been sceptical just in case it doesn't work as well after a shower in morning.

Since reading EMUZ post will test it out night before.

YoungBritishPissArtist · 19/06/2013 23:32

I use Mitchum and it works for me (I'm a sweaty chubster Blush) maybe it reacts differently to different people?

SirRaymond Not weird at all! I always go for the unperfumed ones.

cerealqueen · 20/06/2013 00:26

I'd suggest a men's one too.

wrinklyraisin · 20/06/2013 00:38

I changed to a natural deodorant by Kiss My Face. The first three or four days I sweated loads. Then all of a sudden nothing. I don't smell. I hardly sweat. And my pits feel healthier for some reason, maybe no aluminum? I don't know. I buy 6 roll ons at a time just in case they discontinue it. Fabulous stuff and I like that it's more natural. And I live the fact it works!!!!

EMUZ · 20/06/2013 00:42

Rocksie - I actually find it works better (I didn't believe the packet instructions at first!) but I do add a spray of dove/sure in the morning

It does wash off but it's like most of the extra strong ones. They tell you to apply at night - something to do with body temp being lower (says in leaflet in box but I've lost it)
Still seems to work though Smile

Fluffycloudland77 · 20/06/2013 08:06

Botox injections in the underarm is meant to be very effective if pricey.

I use the men's Mitchum but mine ages old so I'm on the old recipe by the sounds of it.

AintNobodyHereButUsKittens · 20/06/2013 08:12

The Sure cream stuff (Dove also do some) is very good at its job, though messy and packaging a general PITA IMO
I switched to Nivea Invisible, which does the job quite well.

daisychicken · 20/06/2013 08:18

I ended up going natural, deodorant nor antiperspirant seemed to help and I was changing my tops 2-3 times a day. I now use bicarbonate of soda and have done for 10 years! I started off by mixing it with a natural oil (coconut I think, it was solid at room temp but softened in your fingers to rub on) but now use it like a talc - just a little bit under each arm. It doesn't stop sweating but that said, I don't sweat any where near like I used to and I don't smell!

Google or Pinterest natural deodorants for some ideas. Bonus though is bicarb is mega cheap!

hugoagogo · 20/06/2013 15:16

I checked and it was the sure maximum, not the dove maximum that let me down yesterday, I have chucked it and last night used a sure maximum that I have lying around.
Of course today it hasn't been that warm, so it hasn't been properly tested. Hmm

I am tempted by a natural-ish product-has anyone tried out the Lush ones?

Trust
(name of brand - use once every few weeks)

Orianne · 20/06/2013 19:47

I can't use any of the 48/72 hr ones as I am allergic to them. Have started using Boots deonat in the spray and that seems to be keeping me stink free.
