I don't think what you're looking for exists. I've heard people recommend the Cloud Nine straighteners (apparently made by the people who invented GHDs, or something) but the price is similar. I wasted far too much money buying cheaper pairs that were nowhere near as good. I wish I'd just saved up and bought a new pair of GHDs instead.

I've been very pleased with my remington pearl straightners (I simply couldn't justify spending that much on GHDs). I have thick hair and they do the job quickly and well. My hairdresser usually recommends GHD BUT has tried lee staffords and says he was actually quite impressed with them (he still has GHD in his salon though)

Remmington Pearls. I love mine.

I just got some new (basic £99) ghds to replace my ancient ones, and I am bitterly disappointed in them Confused I have some Babyliss ones as spares and would pretty much say they are equal if not better. Really REALLY disappointed.

I have a Nicky Clarke one from Boots, and I absolutely love it. It's much better than my old GHD.

And about a quarter of the price.

I'd also recommend Remington pearl straighteners. Can't say I've particularly missed ghd's since I bought these.

I always recommend Corioliss over GHD's. Usually sold in selfridges or online, they aren't available everywhere , but far superior in my opinion. I've had my c2's for 8 years and still going strong after daily use.

I think it depends on your hair type - I have friends with less curly and generally more well behaved hair that use slightly cheaper straighteners with good results. When I have tried them they have been fine at first but then hair has frizzed in hour, so ghd's all the way!

Babyliss boutique are better then GHDs. i have really. thick curly hair and have been using GHDs for about 12 years. My last pair blew up at Christmas and out of desperation i bought some to tide me over till i could get some more GHDs. The Babyliss ones were about fifty quid and they are fab . they go up to 235 degrees which is hotter than my old GHDs. So pleased i didn't spend all that money!!
