So all those colour analysis people were right!

I've been teetering on the edge of having colour analysis done for about........... 10 20 years but been too tight and worried about feeling silly/vain
After many false starts deciding by myself I am one season or another I finally think I've cracked it! Have recently worked out I must be a bright spring. I've changed my (dyed) hair colour to a warmer shade and been wearing clothes from this palette. A total stranger told me today that my (very cheap, but correct colour) cardi really brought out the colour in my eyes and looked fantastic on me!
Can't remember that ever happening before! So, do we have a recent 'spring' thread that I've missed? Can see one for all the others but not spring

What resources did you use please? I would like to figure out what I am too. I neither have the money or time to go for a consultation (two year old and a 7 month old) but I feel a right wreck and so want to look my best. Or at least better!

Whoknowswhocares · 18/06/2013 16:58

I'm guessing that 20 years of trial and error is not the answer you are hoping for?!!! Shock
If I had the chance to go back, I would have had the colours done properly years ago and saved myself a fortune in 'nearly right' clothes
That said, I used some of the old threads here, plus the site below this time around. Coupled with my trial and error knowledge, eg. I get compliments in black, but white looks horrendous. Coral, red and orange suit, but burgundy and muted tones look rubbish..... I managed to narrow it down.
Until today, tbh I still wasn't 100% sure. But that compliment has settled it!

What colour were you wearing? - I'm a Bright Spring Smile.....

Aquelven · 18/06/2013 21:18

I'm a HoC spring & black isn't in their spring palettes at all, was specifically told that it's a bad colour for Springs.

Whoknowswhocares · 18/06/2013 21:34

Link I put up has black as secondary colour, plus other websites list black as good for bright spring, because it is veering towards winter. Not recommended for other springs though, so perhaps you are one of those?

cardoon cardi was a bright jade/turquoise green. M and S basic bobble button one from a couple of years ago.

I think I'm spring too but not sure whether I'm light or warm. My hair is light blonde but naturally more a darker blonde, and my eyes are green-grey.

I used to wear a lot of black as it enhanced my hair and fake tan. I don't bother with the tan anymore and wear brighter colours but still wear black on occasion and have had compliments when wearing it. I am currently obsessed with yellow - no idea if it is my colour but I love it.

SofaCanary · 18/06/2013 21:55

Spring colours are the nicest, love the pretty blues, corals and turquoises.

Rattitude · 18/06/2013 23:22

I am a light spring. I have dark blond/mousy hair and blue grey eyes.

I still wear black (trousers, skirts, jackets and coats) but less than I used to. I am experimenting more with brown, camel and taupe.

White is definitely a no-no for me; ivory and off-white suit me much more.

mrsspongebob · 19/06/2013 07:15

I seem to be a bright winter. I can wear black.....thank god!

Aquelven · 19/06/2013 07:26

I still wear black too. I already had so much of it.
I was just saying that black is not on the colour swatches that I was given & the consultant made a big thing of stating that it's only for winters.

If it is included for Springs in other systems then that's great as I can't afford to replace all my good black things & I still like it. Grin
I'm a Blue Spring, natural very, very light blonde hair & blue/ green ( turquoise ) eyes.

QueenCadbury · 19/06/2013 07:26

All online tests including the one linked put me as a summer as I'm blonde. Having been draped I'm a winter.

Aquelven · 19/06/2013 08:54

I did the online tests too & was certain I was a Light Summer. But then when I went for the draping I was spring. The summer drapes just drained me.

Deathwatchbeetle · 19/06/2013 12:37

I really must get this done at some point. I keep 'telling' myself I am one season and then another. After deciding I was warm toned - I decided I quite liked the Summer colours - the lilacs and such like. I don't belie i am cool toned at all but I think with my coluring I suit most colours except orange and yellow. I do suit some reds but hope I don't suit boring beiges and browns (though I often do a smokey brown eye!!!). I veer towards bluey green (or is it greeny blues). I suspect Icould be anything but a winter. I am guessing some kind of a spring or Autumn - though I hate those pumpkin shades but could get away with a coral I guess.

Whatever, you can bet that with my wardrobe of black/none so black/blacker still, I shall be told never ever to wear such a colour! Bad news to all old punk/death metal/goth types!!!

Whoknowswhocares · 19/06/2013 13:33

I agree with all of you saying to do it properly and get draped. All the line tests have made me either summer or autumn, probably because I never identified myself as a 'clear'
Should I check and get mine done properly? Probably.
Will I? Probably not!
I can finally SEE the difference that the good colours make and I feel 'right' in them. Every single 100% colour from bright spring is great on me. I've never felt that way in summer or autumn stuff, even though some of each palette are a fair match and the bright cold colours look truly grotty, so I can't be a winter. If I was told to wear anything other than the palette I am now, I'd ignore it! So no point going
To anyone who hasn't yet reached that point....definitely save up and get tested! I spent YEARS being unsure and flitting between decisions and convincing myself it was all hokum when I got it wrong

I would love to get my colours done if I'm not an autumn I'll be amazed

Can you get them done at home, maybe I could organise a colours party type thing.

hollyisalovelyname · 19/06/2013 16:16

Really stupid question.... Do you go by your natural hair colour or the colour it's dyed. Can't make out the difference between bright and light etc

Whoknowswhocares · 19/06/2013 16:29

Deffo natural colour. I think the consultants cover your hair to stop you getting a false reading....although not sure if that's just if you have dyed hair?

OP posts:
hollyisalovelyname · 19/06/2013 16:33

Thank you. But surely the colour of your hair now influences what colours suit you?

QueenCadbury · 19/06/2013 16:39

It's about skin tone rather than hair colour.

Whoknowswhocares · 19/06/2013 16:40

Yes but what if the colour you have dyed it doesn't really compliment your skin and eye colouring?
I think the idea is to match the hair colour you choose to your basic skin/eye colouring, not the other way around iykwim

OP posts:
Aquelven · 19/06/2013 17:16

Yes, they cover your hair if it's been dyed.
The two other ladies who had their drapes done on the day I did both had coloured their hair, so had it covered. Once the draping was finished & the cap came off it really struck us how wrong the hair colour they'd chosen was, didn't flatter their skin, though it had looked ok till you saw them in the right colours that made their eyes & skin really glow. They got advice on hair colours that would suit them better. My hair isn't dyed so wasn't covered. I did get recommendations if I ever wanted to colour it but the consultant said it was best as it is as it's the palest blonde.

cardoon · 19/06/2013 19:02

So Springs,......anyone seen anything nice (and current) in tangerine or aquamarine......?

Aquelven · 19/06/2013 21:03

I've been carrying my swatch book everywhere with me, just in case, but not having much luck so far finding things.
I had a trip to Boundary Mill earlier this week. Long drive but figured there'd be loads of choice...big mistake Sad
There wasn't much in our colours really & what was there was very mother of the bride Confused

I did eventually find just one thing I liked in my size,a navy blue linen jacket by Planet reduced from £199 to £29.
Hoping might have better luck in the sales when I can get into town.
Do you have any luck ordering online? Trouble is getting the shade right. We all have most colours, red, blue etc but but the shade makes such a huge difference as I saw in the draping.

cardoon · 19/06/2013 21:09

I must say I find it very difficult matching up a real live item of clothing with the swatches....Confused

Rattitude · 19/06/2013 22:13

For basics in your specific colour, you can look at Kettlewell.
