OMG my skin looks amazing! I'm not sure why though

Another guilty Superdrug binge today in search of the elusive fix for my messy rosacea-ridden, open-pored skin.

Bought Bourjois Radiance Reveal Healthy Mix Foundation, claimed on shelf (though not bottle) to be a "serum foundation" for £10.99.

And QVS foundation brush for £4.99.

Used the both, none too carefully. I look airbrushed! Dewy and even and generally angelic. The redness has gone. A couple of big pores are still visible though much reduced. If I was going out I would dust a smidgeon of powder over my nose but nothing else.

What has done this?? Is it the brush or the foundation?

I have bourjois healthy mix serum and too love it!,, its great, I don't have a qvc brush so can't know whether that's any good,.,. However that foundation- brill!

coffeeinbed · 17/06/2013 20:28

If I had a penny for very single time I've been banging on about that foundation...
Good stuff.
I use my fingers though.

scripsi · 17/06/2013 21:04

ooh have they renamed the bourjois healthy mix serum or is there a new radiance version?

MadBusLady · 17/06/2013 21:36

It seems it's the foundation then! My vastly more expensive Bobbi Brown stick isn't as good (though I've not tried that with the brush, may do tomorrow.)

Scripsi, this is the one I bought, and yes it does say new. This is the other one on the shelf I didn't buy and it's the serum one, I was getting confused before. Presumably this is the original version you know?

Really wish cosmetics and beauty companies wouldn't give everything five names and produce several minutely different versions of everything. I've been put off making purchases before because I couldn't remember exactly which version of something I was looking for.

yes, this is all a bit insane. I have the original and the serum one. So there seems to be another one which is also healthy mix (just had a look on the bourjois website too). I shall hunt it down!

MadBusLady · 17/06/2013 22:15

According to Makeup Alley the original has been discontinued - that seems mad if it's just won a bunch of awards. And one of the reviews says the Radiance Renewal has replaced it. If the original is as good as the RR but a bit more matte, then I'd probably have liked the original even more.

Ooh exciting am going to rush out tomorrow and try it! Always looking for that elusive perfect foundation ( Maybelline has been pretty good, found mineral make up to be v disappointing... Unless I'm not doing it right !)

NomDeOrdinateur · 17/06/2013 22:34

MadBusLady - I remember Bourjois announced on their FB page recently that they were discontinuing the old packaging for Healthy Mix Foundation, but the formula of the foundation would not be changed. Hope that's true, as I love the original formula!

RollerCola · 17/06/2013 22:40

This sounds great, I have rosacea too and am looking for a new foundation. Is it ok on your skin? Doesn't make it flare up or sting at all?

scripsi · 17/06/2013 22:51

I have rosacea too RollerCola and the original formulas haven't affected me. I am going to try this new one too.

SomeDizzyWhore1804 · 17/06/2013 22:53

I will be buying this! Love a foundation recommendation.

MadBusLady · 17/06/2013 22:54

No stinging at all at any point. However, bedtime update, it had definitely started slipping off around the t zone after only four hours. So I may need to use a bit more and/or use a primer and setting powder. Or even just spend more than 20 seconds putting it on.

Amazinggg · 17/06/2013 23:16

I have the serum one and love it, it's just perfect. Makes me look magically better. Much better than my YSL which I spent so much on I feel I have to use it up Hmm

EMUZ · 18/06/2013 02:14

I've been using a real techniques stippling brush for my foundation and the difference is incredible. Actually had 3 comments on my skin, and people saying it looks perfect and glowing Wink

RollerCola · 18/06/2013 07:24

I'm so glad I read this as I'm going to need a new foundation soon. I've used the old Virgin Vie one step face base for years & years as it's not aggravated my rosacea (& I liked the formulation) but they've gone out of business now. I can still get hold of it but I feel like a change.

Just a few more questions - is this bourjois one a liquid? Will I need a powder as well? I've used a pressed foundation/powder combo for ages so it's always dealt with any shine straight away.

And what's the decision on brushes? Do I need one too or are fingers ok?

Thanks Grin

NeoMaxiZoomDweebie · 18/06/2013 07:27

\i need that!

MadBusLady · 18/06/2013 08:10

It's a liquid with quite a gel-like texture, Roller, and yes if you're at all prone to shine a bit of powder will have to go over the top. Am going to try the same foundation but with fingers today.

I find the trouble with my rosacea is it never actually stings, but several days into using something new I'll notice I'm a lot more red. So I'll update again if that happens.

I'm 32 and been wearing foundation or tinted moisturiser every day since I was 16 probably. That Bourjois foundation is the first one I have EVER bought a second bottle of!! and now a third. I love it! Since I started using primer with it it does last a lot better, there is actually makeup on the cotton pad when I take it off in the evening whereas previously it'd mostly come off by 11pm. I do have slightly oily skin though on t-zone. I only use powder if I am going out in the evening and need to make my nose look less shiny (am a bit lazy)...

oreoaddict · 18/06/2013 12:57

I usually use Clinique even better foundation, which is really good and has an SPF 20 too. It doesn't really last that long though. I would definitely need to reapply if I was going out early evening.

I have a few Boujois products, mascara, blusher etc, but I've never bought foundation from anywhere other than the counter. This does sound pretty amazing and I am tempted. One thing I'm wondering about though is that I already use a serum before I apply my make up, so would this not be suitable for me? Would I be over serumed? Grin

RollerCola · 18/06/2013 12:57

Just been looking at the ingredients and one of the main ones is dimethicone which can actually be quite helpful for rosacea (apparently?) so that might be why it's not too irritating for the sensitive people.

Looking forward to trying it, think I'll go and buy some today in fact!

SofaCanary · 18/06/2013 13:08

Baaa, I've ordered the serum one Blush

TheBirdsFellDownToDingADong · 18/06/2013 13:12

It's made by Chanel you know.

MadBusLady · 18/06/2013 13:15

Oooooooh.

OP posts:
oreoaddict · 18/06/2013 15:25

What about for more mature skin? My mum is 60 and usually uses the bobby brown one, but she also suffers from redness, quite severe I would say. So would this work for her too?
