Having had three children in the space of five years (what was I thinking?), you will not be surprised to hear I have had very little time to even consider my appearance, let alone attend to it. So I was mortified when someone posted onto Facebook a picture of me at their wedding last month looking, quite literally, horrific. I actually thought I looked quite good on the day. I had put some make-up on... was wearing a new-ish Karen Millen (sale) dress... I had even done some kind of scrunchy thing to my hair. But - oh lord - those pictures told a different story. I looked washed out, hair looked scarecrow-like to say the least and to my complete horror I had several rolls of fat around my middle on display, which totally ruined the look of the lovely dress. I now not only look rubbish but I feel it too......! Where do I even start trying to make myself look presentable again.... Anyone got any tips?!

Well my only tip is to stay far far away from cameras and mirrors but I'm guessing that's not what you wanted to hear Blush

I like having a nice, simple hairdo - it seems to work well on camera as well. I've used hair doughnuts to make a bun, but these are much easier and quicker: www.claires.co.uk/hair-pin-twirls-by-scunci-/hair/shop/fcp-product/11884

With regards to makeup, I find that if I'm not wearing blush, I look washed out. Anything too harsh and dark on my eyes, and I end up looking like I have very small eyes and I look washed out.

Maybe you are being a bit harder on yourself than you should be. Your friends looking at the picture will probably say you look great :)

30 Day Shred!

Drink plenty of water and get as much sleep as you can.

Book yourself in for a haircut/colour with a decent hairdresser.

Get a free make-up consultation/makeover at somewhere like Bobbi Brown.

Thanks for these tips. Have to agree, though, it's not a very good idea to be having my picture taken as I do take a terrible photo... always have. Except before kids I could get away with it a bit because I was not sleep deprived and actually had time to do my hair/make-up. I might also put a ban on everyone I know putting pictures of me or tagging me in pictures on all forms of social media....

In the meantime I will start on the water, go to bed a bit earlier and treat myself to one of those scunci twirls which will do very nicely until I can save up for a colour and cut.

Does anyone know if the 30 Day Shred is hard... ? I am not very good at exercise!

Shred is ok, doesn't take long but makes you sweat!!

Just wanted to update everyone who very kindly provided tips/motivation that I have just purchased the 30 Day Shred. I hadn't even heard of it before yesterday, and the most exercise I have done up till now is putting the bins out.... so this should be very interesting indeed. Dreading the thing arriving but no pain, no gain etc etc.............

Just wanted to show a bit of Shred solidarity. I started it yesterday. I actually feel like it did something yesterday! Muscles a little sore but I'm looking forward to seeing results soon, but the amount I sweated out

RainbowBob · 21/06/2013 11:18

Thank you DuvetHog. my Shred DVD has still has not arrived yet, so I am in that glorious place where I can feel wonderful about myself for ordering an exercise DVD but do not, yet, have to endure the pain....Glad to hear it works after just one session, though.
