I want to get rid of unwanted facial hair for good

So, my facial hair is getting out of hand. I am plucking my chin and moustache twice a day - becoming obsessed by itto be honest. And yesterday I saw a properly bearded lady that didn't help.

So, what do I do to get rid of it on a permanent basis? I'm thinking lazers, electrolysis etc. What works and how painful is it?

I have had two of 6 sessions using e-light [laser] at my beauticians.
The plan is to get 6 completed and then see if any electrolysis is needed.
The laser pain is bearable if you can cope with waxing.

I am also in despair over this.

I have tried waxing (too much regrowth before you can do it again), threading and plucking (pimples), shaving (the best atm), electrolysis (didn't seem to do much) 4 sessions of salon laser (did nothing) and now have a memyelos which also seems to be doing nothing :-(
The consultant OBGYN said "there there" and discharged me...
Is there any way that some nice person would put me under a GA, blast me a super strong laser and we could just be done with it?? I knew of someone who did that on her legs once so I'm sure it can be done.

PoppyWearer · 17/06/2013 12:48

Is it ok if I lurk? I've started having it all threaded but am very self-conscious and it's definitely getting worse as I get older.

Noseynoonoo · 17/06/2013 17:55

I'm going to have to bump this...

Wish there was a pain free way to do it - perhaps the GA is a good idea!

I was reading this thread earlier and then by weird coincidence I got a flyer through the post today for a new place that has opened up in town here. They offer diode laser hair removal which I've never heard of. I am v tempted to try it as they have introductory offers.

I had laser done about 20 years ago in the same area - top lip, chin, neck and cheeks and it was brilliant. Although it took a good year/18 months to treat properly as hair was so coarse. I've been clear of problems till a few years ago when I started getting peri-menopausal symptoms but while it's nowhere near as bad as it was originally, it's getting hard to control now and I'm getting spots and inflammation from constantly plucking. When I looked on the site about diode it said it's not as painful as IPL? I don't know though because what I had back in the day wasn't IPL I don't think. It was v painful on upper lip, chin.

I put a thread in Chat to see if anyone has heard of diode laser.

Laser only works on dark hair on light skin doesn't it? I have thought about electrolysis now I am going grey but not sure it's any good. Would be lovely if someone could suggest a way to do it.

Bakingnovice · 17/06/2013 18:30

Ipl is very good. But very expensive.

sheeparegorgeous · 17/06/2013 18:51

I've just been looking around online and as far as I can tell IPL isn't laser? It's just so hard to know where to go for it as so many different types these days. When I had it done the first time there was only one type of machine I think.

yes, I have some local ones but they are people who rent a room a) at a yoga studio b) at a GP surgery. They could be anyone. Am thinking going to larger company in Harley Street but not sure that 'means' anything.

The elight system I'm using is ipl and rf combined and is said to give a better result on lighter hair and also get results for darker skin.
I'm just waiting to see what the loss is after my second treatment so will keep you informed .

Roshbegosh · 18/06/2013 17:38

Jenny do please follow this up. Here's hoping.

juneau · 18/06/2013 18:40

Find yourself a good clinic (it's worth driving to one in another town or city to get somewhere decent), and go and have a consultation. Laser treatment done properly should work.

Noseynoonoo · 20/06/2013 20:31

Thanks for the responses. Jenny, what is 'rf' and where are you having it done.

Try using Tendskin or an antiseptic after threading or plucking, reduces the chance of pimples or bumps.
