Opinion on earrings

So, DP and I are having our civil partnership next month. She is wearing a dress that a family member wore, and pretty much everything else is things she already owns.

It's all very sensible, and non-bridezillaish, but she did miss out on all the finding her perfect dress excitement, and I wanted to get her something that's actually new and a bit "wow" with the idea of surprising her with a present when she was getting ready.

I was leaning towards Tiffany, on the logic that the box alone seems to spark off excitement. My budget doesn't really stretch to much there, but I saw these www.tiffany.co.uk/Shopping/Item.aspx?langprefforca=-1&sku=15838809 and thought they could be pretty stunning.

Does anyone have any opinions or suggestions? She doesn't like gold, or studs, and £300 is pretty much the limit of my budget. I want to get her something elegant that she could wear at pretty much any age (we're in our late mid twenties now). I live in London, and ideally would like to see them in person first before deciding.

I think they are lovely.

In case you want to look around a bit more, how about Georg Jensen? Danish brand, very classic and great quality.

Harrods has a Georg Jensen shop, and I think Selfridges has Georg Jensen too.

And congratulations!

BillStickersIsInnocent · 17/06/2013 10:24

Have you looked at Astley Clarke? Some lovely earrings here

polyhymnia · 17/06/2013 10:34

Congratulations! Fwiw, I think George Jensen is a much better bet overall than Tiffany who IMO trade too much ontheir name ( tho those earrings are nice).

I have a lovely Jensen daisy pendant which I wear all the time - it's both classic and modern - whereas I hardly ever wear my Tiffany pendant.

Anyway they're both in Bond St so you can check both out.

foxybingodotcom · 17/06/2013 10:43

Those earrings are beautiful, I really love them and fwiw I love a little turquoise box too!

HellonHeels · 17/06/2013 11:04

Congratulations!

Lovely idea to get your partner something special for the big day. The Tiffany earrings are a nice simple design - I like them a lot.

Again, if you want to look further www.stepheneinhorn.co.uk has some fab things, though maybe a bit too far towards the quirky for what you want.

Merrow · 17/06/2013 11:08

Thank you, for the congratulations and recommendations!

I admit, as shallow as it is, the turquoise box is an influencing factor ? all the jewellery she has is from market stalls, and the box does say pretty instantly that it's something a bit special. The Georg Jensen and Astley Clarke earrings are beautiful though, and I will definitely go and see them in person as there's a few pieces I think she could really love.

Sorry HellonHeels, just missed your post. That jewellery looks lovely, but I think I'd need her help to choose something she definitely liked! I'm hoping I have less chance going wrong with something a bit more classic than quirky.

When I've been getting jewelry from Tiffany's, it's in the blue box, and all silver has then just been in a little fabric bag there. More expensive stuff has been in a black box inside the blue cardboard box.

I actually feel that it's a bit disappointing that it's not nicer than that.

Georg Jensen also comes in a (black) cardboard box, similar to the Tiffany's box, and inside the box, there's another box with the jewelry in.

I can take a couple of pics of it if you're curious to see how the boxes look :)

And I completely understand that it's important that the jewelry is presented in a nice way :)

Merrow · 17/06/2013 12:13

Would you mind Vibbe?

I particularly like these ones:
www.georgjensen.com/uk/jewellery/earrings/spirit-earrings-sterling-silver-with-rock-crystal
www.georgjensen.com/uk/jewellery/earrings/sphere-aquamarine-earhooks-1389

But they are very reflective of the style she wears now, and I'm not sure they will be as timeless if you know what I mean? But, maybe looking for something she will wear for years is a bit too ambitious!

I think the Tiffany ones are lovely. Congratulations by the way, I hope you both have a fabulous day Smile

Love those second ones.

If you are in London, try looking in the independent jewelry boutiques on the South Bank. There are a couple of nice ones in Gabriel's Wharf, and two very good ones on the second retail level of the Oxo tower. One of them is on the side not facing the river, and can be a bit easy to miss. They stock local jewelers and you can pick up some lovely unique pieces there. Failing that, I recommend Autumn and May in Greenwich Market and Johnny Rocket on College Approach.

polyhymnia · 17/06/2013 12:33

Love those Jensen ones. I personally find Jensen in general classier than Tiffanys.

There's a difference in what type of box you get when you get a cheaper item and a more expensive one from Tiffany. I have a similar necklace to the one on the right, but in silver, and that was put in the same box as the silver earrings on the left.
I get the impression that all GJ jewelry (maybe except for their Heritage line) comes in the type of box I've shown there.

Merrow · 17/06/2013 13:20

Thanks all, especially for the photos.

I'm not the most visual person in the world, so I'm going to have to go to Bond Street to make a final decision - I'm not really sure how they will all look on, and I'm hoping that something instantly stands out when I see them! But I'm glad that so far I seem not to have made any hideous suggestions.

I'm down in South Bank later this week, so will definitely have a look at the boutiques.

Really lovely. I do not even have pierced ears but these ones from GJ are making me reconsider this.

Congratulations, by the way! Smile

Merrow · 17/06/2013 15:18

They are beautiful, but I'm wary of the fastening; I don't have pierced ears myself, but I'm not sure how they could possibly stay in!

They work like any other stud earrings - you can see them with the back here:

Ah, I see! Thank you. As is readily apparent from this thread, I am somewhat of a novice when it comes to jewellery.
