Question about blusher please

I have read a few times on here that a lot of people have a 5 minute face which is BB cream, eyeliner, mascara and pink blusher on cheek apples. I have a yellow rather than pink skin tone, can I still wear a pink blusher? If so which one?

Me too. It's hard to say in abstract. Much brighter than you think

You can wear a blush with pink undertones even if you have a warm skin tone (yellow undertones) - and if you have pink undertones, you can wear a blush with warm undertones.
In the old days, the rule was that the colour of blush had to be the colour that your cheeks get when you blush naturally.
Today, the rule is that you can wear anything you want.

Generally, if you choose a blush with the same undertones as your skin, it will look more natural and toned down, whereas a blush with the opposite undertones to your skin will stand out more. Sometimes I find that it can make me look more fresh-faced.

I have yellow undertones in my skin, which is quite fair. I have blushes in all kinds of tones - coral, peach, red, purple/wine colour, brown, pink and everything inbetween. I match the tone of blush with the lip colour I'm using - it brings the look together quite well.

A classic colour for the yellow toned, fair skinned people is a peach colour. Such as MAC Peaches. Or if it has to be a bit more pink and with glitter: Nars Orgasm.

If you go to MAC, they are usually quite helpful and good at finding suitable products - even if I'm coming in saying I have no clue about what I'm looking for at all. I've always been happy with the help, and they are happy to apply products on my face to ensure that it looks right before I buy anything.

Don't be scared with how bright it looks in the pot! You won't look like a clown when it's on your face.

Rule of thumb is, if you'd wear it on your lips you can wear it on your cheeks which is why lippy makes good blusher.

Also, the 'apple of the cheek' colouring thing is so wrong unless you're under 25.

Our faces droop as we age and the apples of the cheeks that rise when we smile, drop when the face is at rest leaving pink blobs somewhere in the middle of the face, but definitely not on the cheek bone where they should be.

In fact if anyone has ever done amateur dramatise, or even pro dramatics, you'll know that this is an old makeup trick to age you.

Just smile, put your fingers on the apples of your cheeks and then relax your face.

Depending on your age, the bits you would have put blusher on will probably be somewhere near your nostrils.

Not a good look.

Why not wear a peach blusher OP? I have a million of them. The new Bourjois cream blush in 02 HHealthy Glow is a very wearable peach shade for day.

I usually just wear a bronzer in the 3 shape around the edge of my face but have been toying with the idea of blusher and a lot of people on here were talking pink, but maybe that's just what suits their skin tone?

JUst tried the smile thing in the mirror, eep!

So, MissM, if you are a saggy-faced old bird, where do you put the blusher?

I am 46 and never once worn it, but I'm tempted to try it.

Vibbe · 17/06/2013 15:20

On the cheekbone :)
