lingering on a thread the other day i see how some of you were measuring by bending then standing?

i have never felt comfy in a bra and although i aint got much they fall out if i bend and i get four boob look :-( so i have to wear a vest or sports style top to prevent embarrasment. and low cut tops are a no until i can find a perfect bra?

under the boobs measure 28inc
bending measures 31 and standing 34inc

im currently wearing a 32 A (2 size up cup) i was wearing a 30A but it dug in a bit?

i have no shape what so ever its purely skin and nipples so push ups push up and out the sides :-(

any help will be a great thanks

28 is your band measurement.

Am a bt confused how your around the bust measurement is less bending than standing.?

28C ?

mouses · 15/06/2013 12:42

Ah. so it may be more like 28E ?

Sounds crazy - but I wore a 36B for years, because my mum (and M&S) told methat was my size.

After reading up on these Bra threads - I am happily perky in a 32E. Sooo much better.

mouses · 15/06/2013 12:52

32E?!! does sound a little crazy, im flat as any thing?

i doubt i can ever be perky after 3 kids and lifetime in the wrong bra - BUT to stay in the bra will be good enough Grin

Styles of bras vary also.

I try and go for the fuller cup now - as they aren't so firm !

Best tip is to go to a good dept store and take different sizes to try on.

Be aware that the back size will feel tight. It is supposed to. That's where your support comes from - not the shoulder straps.

I went to a large Debenhams as they seemed tohave a good range of sizes.

StatisticallyChallenged · 15/06/2013 13:02

Yup, 28E sounds right to me too.

mouses · 15/06/2013 13:02

i went debenhams the last time, got measured a 30AA! the lady seemed to best lost with me?

the back strap was leaving deep marks under my arm area / rib area.

I am a mere amateur - you should be able to work out the sizing bette on here

mouses · 15/06/2013 13:05

im getting confused, at the shops im getting put in kid size bra's!

OP posts:
StatisticallyChallenged · 15/06/2013 13:05

The back strap was probably leaving marks because the cups essentially steal fabric from the back making it feel too tight.

AgathaF · 15/06/2013 15:07

Are you anywhere near a Bravissimo?

mouses · 15/06/2013 17:09

ive just checked and not near any stores, nearest would be a trip to london!

28E bras

WeAreSix · 15/06/2013 20:00

If it helps to reassure you, I was put in the teen section by M&S. they measured me as a 34B or C.

I now wear a comfortable 30F from bravissimo

My mum was in a 38B. She's now in a 34E.

mouses · 15/06/2013 20:09

i guess im just in shock at the difference in size and probably wont believe it until i get to the shops and try it for size! Smile

M&S - 36F, real world 30HH/J for me

marriednotdead · 16/06/2013 11:52

Hi mouses
I'm fairly certain that there's a bra out there for you, but you need a specific shape. Because of the difference in your overbust measurements, it seems as if less of the root of your breast is 'stuck' to your body, leaving you with a longer, more oval breast shape. The fact that there is less fat in them or that they have stretched is not particularly relevant, they are still that shape.

If you click on the link that ilovepowerhoop has so kindly provided, filter further by brand to Cleo by Panache.

The two bras I'd like you to try there are a Juna and a Melissa, in a 28E or a 28DD.
On putting them on, you need to first fasten the band, then scoop your breasts to the front of the cups WHILST LEANING FORWARD AS IF DOING THE DANGLING MEASUREMENT. This will pull all of your breast tissue into the front and out of your armpits. Only then do you adjust the shoulder straps.
A bit of repositioning should fix the rest.

If this works as I hope, then most other Cleo styles should suit you.

thanks for your time to reply.

all the years debenhams and M&S have adviced me to steer clear of balconette bras! ...... Hmm Confused

thanks so much for all your help x

so i went to the shops to convince myself that 28E would fit before buying on line.

most shops didnt have 28's so went up to a 30DD and 30E, 30 felt snug andi think a 28 would of suffocated me!

any how, they both seem to cover and fit ok (in shock!) only problem was that my boobs always left a gap at the top where theres no shape/ no firmness to them. so still dont feel secure and id still wear a vest or crop top over the E bra? Sad

i can only describe my boobs as a slopping look in the bra?!

am i going wrong some where? if there a style i should/shouldnt go for - ie, padded, push up, no padding? most pads and pushers make me fall out more!

OP posts:
StatisticallyChallenged · 20/06/2013 19:52

mouses I think that is more of a style issue - some bras are better for full on top boobs (generally those with very open cups to prevent quad boob!) and others are better for softer or fuller on the bottom boobs. Moulded generally aren't great unless you find one which matches your breast shape

which bras did you try today? it might help narrow things down

mouses · 20/06/2013 21:42

i guess im bottom boob?

today i tried balcony, balcony with push, and plunges. i think one was called contor? had extra fabric on the cup?? and the ones that dont have underwire but shaped for comfort?

oh, i tried one balcony bra that fitted good but the wire sitting on the breast bone dug in and i couldnt of put up with that all day.

sorry i cant be more specific, i have anxieties and most of today was a blur now. i dont hold info well, apologises.

DO NOT bother getting fitted at a department store!!
(Bravissimo being the exception as they're good)

When I was a student 1999-2003 I worked in the lingerie bit of Debs. Using a tape measure does not give an accurate measurement for the cup size (tho it's ok for back size). I regarded it more as a starting point for trying on bras really.

I used to be a 30G back then & my god it was a nightmare getting decent bras then. Bravissimo was about the only place so they were my saviours! For years I was wearing too loose a back size until I eventually got wise.

Pre-pregnancy i had bras that were so well fitting that i didnt even feel them on all day. Sadly i am still waiting for my boobs to deflate a bit more so i can fit back into them Sad.

These are the rules I use when getting bras:

  1. Quality! I believe in paying for a good brand e.g. Freya, Fantasie etc for comfort & fit.
  2. TRY BRAS ON! Loads if you have to as fit varies between brands & annoyingly also within brands. Different styles also give different shapes (I usually avoid full cup & buy balconette as I prefer the shape it gives my boobs)
  3. The back & cup size are linked & both have to be right to get the perfect fit:
The back should be snug on the end or middle hook, but not tight & digging in & should not be riding up your back! However if you're used to wearing too big a back size you probably will have to get used to the feeling. You should be able to take a deep breath & feel the back expand with you, not constrict you. At the same time the cups are a good fit when there is no double or side boob (too small), no wrinkling (too big) and the wires in the middle sit against your breastbone between your boobs. 4.. (And this sadly only comes with wear after purchase) If you go a whole day & aren't aware of even wearing a bra then it's the right fit. If you are regularly uncomfortable & having to adjust it then it's not quite right.

Oh and finally you should be able to walk down the street & not have you boobs bouncing around (back too loose!). I see so many women with jiggly boob syndrome & it makes me sad for them!
