Hair Colour: Do you like your natural colour? If you dye it/have it dyed, is it exactly how you want it?

I dye mine, not just because of partial grey but because I think my natural colour doesn't truly suit me (its dark brown almost black). This suits lots of people but not really me.

So I go light almost mousey brown, I still go through phases of blond though.

So my question is; is your current colour just how you want? There are SO many options!

I dye mine all the time, have done since age 17! I used to dye because I could - went mousy to dark, now go mousy to blondish red, am a bit too gray to go dark. I want to get a lovely auburn but had a bad home dye earlier in the year and it went bright red so am letting memory of that fade before I try again!

I'm midbrown/chestnutty. Or was in my hayday.

Now it's Lush Henna brun all the way Grin - love my colour

HoveringKestrel · 14/06/2013 22:41

oh I've had many a bad experience. Once I bleached and put a toner on...the silver result was NOT what it looked like in the bix!

i'm a redhead and dye blonde. i love it, it makes me feel all sunny. i do miss my red too, i haven't seen it for 15 years, and i belong to a family of redheads. a couple of occasions i attempted to dye it back, but i just felt wrong.

HoveringKestrel · 14/06/2013 23:16

I know what you mean. Most ny family have dark hair but I just don't feel comfortable with it.

Am naturally mousey brown. I bleach it palest blonde and tone it to prevent orangeyness. I love it, it makes me look so much younger, happier and healthier. Takes loads of care to maintain but worth it.

ZaraW · 15/06/2013 05:43

I have dark red hair, used to hate it when I was younger but love it now. I occasionally use a semi permanent but am happy not to dye it. I have some grey coming through so that's something I will need to think about probably in the next couple of years.

I always wanted to try being blonde but my hairdresser absolutely refuses to do it, my hair is too dry.........

I love my natural hair colour but I struggle with the grow out as I'm about 70% silver, more so at my temples. The darker bits of my hair almost look black and the white is very shimmery. It is so much prettier than the dull sheen of dyed hair.

I have been trying to match the dark with dye fir years but it always pulls too warm. So, at the moment I'm growing it out to break free of the hair dye cycle because, frankly when after a week you have noticeable regrowth what is the point?

Both my parents were silver by their thirties so it is inevitable really. The thing is I adore grey/silver/pewter hair but the skunk stripe stage with the oxidising ends is a confidence killer- and I only have a pixie to grow out!

CMOTDibbler · 15/06/2013 09:36

I'm my natural colour which is white at the front, silver at the sides, and mousy and 50% grey at the back. The only thing I'd change is to hurry up the back going grey as I love the look so much

HoveringKestrel · 15/06/2013 14:04

its encouraging to hear people embracing grey, its just a bit intimidating to me

My natural hair colour is dark red - a real copper/bronze colour.

I have always loved it and have passed it on to DS1.

Unfortunately, as I went into my 40's the grey started coming through more and more. No home tint could replicate my natural colour but my lovely hairdresser managed to get close with a combination of two colours.

I'm 51 now and I've started to go lighter red as there is now too much grey.

But I wish I had my original colour back and am tempted to make a wig out of DS1's hair Grin

DressageCriminal · 15/06/2013 14:18

Forgot to say, if my hair went the beautiful white colour my mum has - I would definitely stop dyeing it.

bonzo77 · 15/06/2013 14:44

I loved my natural colour before the grey set in when I was in my early 20's. I think I'm about 30% white, with 100% white at my temples. The rest is a sort of cool medium brown. I'm using a reddish brown at the moment because anything without the red goes too dark, and anything lighter doesn't cover the white and I end up looking bald at my parting. Hmm

amazingmumof6 · 15/06/2013 14:46

mine is brown some white hairs - refuse to call them grey, there's my denial!Grin

happy with it as it helps me look almost as old as I am - I have been told I have a baby face ( whatever that means) and people always think I'm 5-10 years younger, which is actually annoying at times.
I know, it's strange.Grin

freddiefrog · 15/06/2013 14:57

My natural colour is very dark brown and quite harsh and I think is too dark for me and makes me look older than I am.

I've been going grey since about 17 and have been dyeing it for years - not entirely sure how much of my natural brown is left now (not a lot judging from the state of my roots)

I dye it a lighter, warmer brown with some caramel and blonde highlights

Chandon · 15/06/2013 15:04

Mine is a nice but unexciting brown with a few natural blonde highlighs, and an occasional stray grey hair (no!) as in my 40s now.

I tried diferent colours, but somehow think my natural shade suits me best. Also, I am lazy.

BinksToEnlightenment · 15/06/2013 17:22

I have my natural hair colour. It's a darkish blonde but with lots of natural highlights through it, because it lightens up really easily in the sun.

I would prefer it lighter, but it would be such a ball ache to maintain.

MrsLettuce · 15/06/2013 18:59

I'm lucky to be happy with my natural colour but I'm not greying yet - I tell myself I'll just let it get on with going grey naturally but who knows how I'll really feel when it finally starts.

EMUZ - The current colour is nice but it's a shame you've ditched the curls, they really suit you. The red lippy does too. TBH I think your natural colour is probably kinder to your face.

EMUZ · 15/06/2013 19:08

Not ditched curls Wink its naturally curly but I had just had it cut and straightened

MrsLettuce · 15/06/2013 19:16

Ah, right so you've not gone permanganate straight. Grand! Those curls are fab and could only be natural.

EMUZ · 15/06/2013 19:29

My hair wouldn't let me Confused it's curling already after being straight yesterday!
